Message from the Director
As we reach the end of another calendar year, I want to take a moment to wish happy holidays to all of our DGS staff and partners. I hope each of you enjoy your celebrations.
I am proud to continue DGS' annual holiday tradition of preparing the State Capitol for the holiday season. This year, the state’s official Christmas tree is from LaTour Demonstration State Forest. DGS crews spent several days trimming the tree, hanging 10,000 LED lights and nearly 200 hand-crafted ornaments donated by the California Department of Developmental Services. The ornaments are created by children and adults with developmental disabilities who receive services and support from the state’s development centers and 21 nonprofit regional centers.
Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom held the 93rd annual California State Capitol Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 11.
If you are in the Sacramento area this holiday season, be sure to swing by the State Capitol to view the Christmas tree. Wishing you all a festive and joyful holiday season!
