Message from the Director
I am proud to announce the release of the Department of General Services 2024-25 Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan is a department-wide collaboration that focuses on setting tangible goals to generate fundamental changes within DGS. As each of our divisions outlined their specific goals and projects, we noticed the emergence of the following five themes: Collaborative, Consultative, Sustainable, Data-Informed, and Effective. I believe these themes reflect both who we are at DGS right now and who we want to continue to be. With these themes as our foundation and the Strategic Plan as our guide, I am certain DGS is poised to seize the moment and continue making impactful, positive contributions in the business of government. I am excited to share the 2024-25 Strategic Plan with you and look forward to making these goals a reality with the entire DGS team.
The 2024-25 Strategic Plan can be found on the home page of our website.

California’s summer months are here, and with that comes higher temperatures. As the climate changes, extreme heat conditions become more frequent and more dangerous. In preparation for the warmer months, Governor Newsom announced the launch of Ready.ca.gov – a new one-stop shop to help Californians prepare for emergencies and extreme weather. Visit here to learn about what else state government is doing to prepare for rising temperatures.
Here at DGS, we are taking a leadership role in reducing the impact of electricity shortages caused by increased energy demand during extreme heat conditions. DGS recently procured the services of a demand response aggregator, which will help state agencies in their efforts to reduce energy use during periods of peak demand. During Flex Alerts, state buildings respond by dimming lights, deactivating electric vehicle chargers, and increasing the temperature inside buildings. DGS has enrolled every one of its state buildings in demand response programs, which sets an example for all government agencies and ensures that we are doing our part to reduce energy demand when the grid needs it most.
