2026 Bike Fest Wrap-Up
Cupertino wrapped up another incredible Fall Bike Fest this past Saturday, the 13th annual! The sun was shining, the weather was gorgeous, and the bike riders were plentiful. This year at Bike Fest we had more participants than ever before; more attendees, more riders, more volunteers, and more collective miles traveled.
Here is a breakdown of the numbers:
800+ participants (compared to 600+ last year)
1800+ miles ridden (compared to 1300+ last year)
Almost 200 volunteers and vendors to pull it all off!
Our 'Tour de Cupertino' long ride had over 100 riders and collectively clocked over 800 miles. Our 'Scavenger Hunt' family short ride had over 375 riders (the largest yet) and collectively traveled over 950 miles. Our newest addition to the festival, the 'Little Loop' circuit saw over 170 riders who collectively traveled over 50 miles (1285 laps)! And finally, our flagship Bike Rodeo had over 100 riders who traveled 6 miles.
In addition to bike rides, this year's Bike Fest featured bike skill-building games, bike-blended smoothies and bike-powered art, a climate carnival - which features climate education-focused games hand built with 100% reclaimed wood using renewable energy, a bike chain-cleaning clinic, free helmet giveaways, and more! Bike Fest is always our favorite time of year, and we look forward to hosting another one next Fall! For more information and photos of Fall Bike Fest, visit this page.

Juvenile Diversion Program Re-Launches with Emphasis on E-Bike Safety
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office conducted its first Juvenile Diversion Program class focused on e-bike safety this past August. The Juvenile Diversion Program was originally established prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been reinstated as an alternative to traffic citations for youth who commit traffic violations that do not include operating a car, such as walking, bicycling, scootering, e-bikes, ore-scooters. This program gives youths who receive traffic citations the opportunity to attend a class and learn about traffic safety instead of facing the penalties associated with their citation or fine. This new version of the program brings increased awareness and education about e-bikes, e-scooters, e-motorcycles (e-motos), and e-bike safety. The first class had 10 youths and their guardians in attendance, and there are already 5 signed up for the next class to be scheduled in November. To learn more about the program, click here.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month
In honor of National Pedestrian Safety Month, we’d like to remind you that pedestrians are people – including many children in Cupertino who are walking to and from school. When driving, especially in morning and afternoon please watch for people! Stay alert and allow children to cross the street safely. This message is brought to you in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Wolfe Road/I-280 Interchange Project Update: The southbound Wolfe Road on-ramp to Northbound I-280, near the Marriott Hotel, will be closed to traffic for approximately one year starting tomorrow, October 2. Drivers travelling south on Wolfe Road who need to travel onto northbound I-280 will now be directed to turn left onto the existing loop on-ramp, where a new temporary traffic signal at the northbound ramp has been installed to accommodate this movement for the duration of the closure. Drivers and community members should follow posted signs and traffic control direction in the field. The ramp closure is needed to construct the foundation for the new bridge structure and new retaining walls along the north side of the freeway.
