Bike Fest is Almost Here!
Our 13th annual Fall Bike Fest is on Saturday, September 26! Continuing our tradition of celebrating all things bike, we’re excited about bringing bike education and fun to our community, all entirely free for participants. Activities this year will include getting your bike and helmet checked, decorating your bike, making bike-blended smoothies, creating bike-themed art, learning to be a safe cyclist in a mini bicycle course, and much more! For further information and updates, check out cupertino.org/bikefest.
PS- We still need volunteers! If you are an adult or teen interested in volunteering, please reach out. We would love your help.
Sign up here for adults, and here for students.

Fall is Time to Walk & Roll
Bike Fest is just around the corner, but you don’t need to wait until then to ride your bike. You can walk and roll to school, the park, the store, and many other places right away! To encourage this, many of our Cupertino schools, including Lincoln, Sedgwick, and Hyde, are hosting Walk & Roll Day to School Days this fall. We’re seeking parents to help us organize events at the other schools too. It’s easy, you pick a day with the school principal, gather a few volunteers, and spread the word. We can help with ideas, advertising flyers, prizes, and a few more volunteers. Then the entire school and surrounding neighborhood enjoy a day with less car traffic at drop off and pick up! Please reach out to us if you’re interested by emailing saferoutes@cupertino.gov.

Cupertino Walkers Get a Head Start
Speaking of walking and biking, Cupertino is making great improvements to increase pedestrian safety around Cupertino. We’re excited to announce that Cupertino Public Works has just added Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) to three intersections around town. What is an LPI, you might ask? It’s a signal timing adjustment that gives pedestrians a 3- to 7-second head start on a walk signal before the parallel car traffic is given a green light. As CalBike mentions, “this simple, low-cost adjustment has been demonstrated to lower pedestrian-on-vehicle crashes by 13%.” Cupertino now has these intervals at the intersections of Stelling Road and Greenleaf Drive near Garden Gate Elementary, Stevens Creek Boulevard and Mann Drive, and Stevens Creek Boulevard and Bubb Road.

September is California Pedestrian Safety Month!
Walking is a healthy and enjoyable way to get around, and September is a good reminder to make safety a part of every trip. The next time you head out on foot, look up, enjoy the view, and stay aware of the people and traffic around you. Here are a few more ways to stay safe while walking:
- Wear brightly colored clothes and carry a flashlight at night.
- Stay off your phone and look left-right-left before crossing a street.
- Cross streets at marked crosswalks/intersections, preferably with a stop sign or signal.

Wolfe Road/I-280 Interchange – The Wolfe Road/I-280 Interchange Improvements Project continues. Please be aware that there may be disruptions to travel, especially around peak traffic times, as well as potential re-routing. We suggest avoiding this corridor and considering other routes while construction is taking place. More about this project here.

SV Hopper Change to Service – SV Hopper has made a notable change to its service that impacts schools and students. To improve service efficiency, SV Hopper pick-up locations have been moved away from school drop-off loops. Riders are now directed to the nearest designated corner outside of school traffic areas to help vehicles avoid congestion and to help keep our SV Hopper vehicle operations efficient for all users.
