Hello Neighbors,
I hope everyone had a meaningful Memorial Day weekend honoring and remembering the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.
Public safety services and fiscal responsibility remain among the City’s highest priorities. As one of three cities that contract with the County for Sheriff’s services, Cupertino continues working collaboratively toward a fair, long-term agreement.
Yesterday, as part of ongoing discussions and one of many meetings the City has had with the County on this topic, the three cities met with the County to continue negotiations of our law enforcement contracts. The County has agreed to an extension of the current agreements as negotiations continue over the terms of a new contract and to allow a third-party consultant to perform an assessment of the County's proposed cost methodology. The short extension will ensure that both parties can continue working toward a legally compliant agreement that maintains public safety services for the community. I will continue to provide timely updates to the community on this important topic through this newsletter.
In the weeks ahead, there are also many opportunities for you to take part in local events, support local businesses, prepare for emergencies, and recognize fellow neighbors for the contributions they make to Cupertino.
Nominations for the CREST Awards are now open, and we invite you to consider nominating your neighbor, or others in the community, who are making a impact in Cupertino. We also invite local artists to take part in the Cupertino 250 Art Showcase by submitting their artwork for a chance to be featured during our July Fourth celebration and help highlight the creativity that makes our community special.
We are also looking forward to National Night Out, an annual event that brings neighbors and law enforcement together to strengthen relationships and help build safer, more connected neighborhoods. It’s a meaningful reminder of how important community partnerships and civic engagement are in keeping our city strong. In addition, we invite everyone to join us for the City’s annual Pride Flag Raising on June 10 as we celebrate inclusion and unity in Cupertino.
Thank you for your engagement.
