Dear Neighbors,
There are several updates and opportunities to share with you this month.
Thank you to everyone who joined the Telephone Town Hall last night on the proposed Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office contract changes. We appreciate the questions and feedback as we continue working with our partner cities to find a responsible path forward.
We have also launched a new system for permit parking that makes it easier for residents to apply and manage permits online. This is one of several steps we are taking to improve how we deliver services and make everyday processes simpler.
If you are looking for ways for you and your family to stay active this summer, registration is now open for summer recreation programs, and later this summer, our Summer of Celebration Shop Local campaign will bring increased opportunities for residents to discover local businesses. In addition, please consider attending one of the upcoming Personal, Family, and Neighborhood Preparedness workshops to help you and your family prepare for the unexpected. Lastly, I encourage you to review the Draft Health and Safety Element and share your feedback as we plan for the future of our community.
Thank you for taking the time to stay informed.

Warm Regards,
 Tina Kapoor

POSTPONED - April 16 Stevens Creek Boulevard & Wolfe/Miller Ave Traffic Signal Shutdown
For the Stevens Creek Boulevard Class IV Bikeways Project (Phase 2A), traffic signals at the intersection of Stevens Creek Boulevard and Miller/Wolfe Avenue were planned to be temporarily shut down on Thursday, April 16, from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m. However, during the work on April 15 to prepare the site, the contractor discovered that there is a break in the existing conduit that they will need to pull cable through. This will need to be repaired before proceeding with the cable pull, and will not be completed in time for tomorrow’s shut down. For this reason, the signal shutdown for Thursday, April 16 has been postponed, and will be rescheduled for another date, to be determined. The City has updated the project webpage with this information and will continue to provide important updates on the project as it proceeds.

Cupertino High School Safe Routes Team Wins Award
The Safe Routes to School (SR2S) team at Cupertino High School was recently showcased by the Fremont Union High School District (FUHSD) at their February board meeting. Each year, each FUHSD school site picks one student group to be recognized for their great work in the community. This year, SR2S was selected!
The school’s SR2S team, comprised of students and parents and led by Assistant Principal Steve Puccinelli, meets monthly throughout the school year to discuss all things related to walk and roll safety and encouragement on campus. They assess conditions and attitudes among students for walking and rolling, create solutions to safety problems, and plan encouragement and educational events on campus throughout the year.
Some of their most impactful projects include leading ‘Bike Trains’ during orientation each year where incoming freshmen can join a guided bike group ride to school to learn their safest route to school, hosting ‘Don’t Drive for Donut’ days on campus, and organizing a bike drive and bike repair clinic on campus.
