Cupertino Streets get Brighter
Cupertino streets are brighter and safer as the City is working to replace streetlight poles and improve LED lighting throughout the City. Replacing worn out poles enhances public safety by averting potential failures, and LED lights deliver a more luminous and directed light while conserving energy and reducing light pollution.
Since 2018, the City has been working to upgrade streetlight poles across Cupertino. By 2024, all 396 fluted poles were replaced. The focus has now shifted to swapping out older steel poles with galvanized Type 15 poles, which are stronger and more resistant to corrosion. In 2024, 41 steel poles were replaced, and another 76 are scheduled for replacement through 2025–2026. In addition, the City Lighting LED Improvements Project is upgrading more than 2,000 streetlights to energy-efficient LED fixtures. This work is already underway and is expected to wrap up by Fall 2025.
See the completed and upcoming improvements for streetlighting infrastructure with the Streetlight Improvements Story Map—a comprehensive visual representation to track street light upgrades: gis.cupertino.org/webmap/streetlight/

New bike signals will also be added at the Wolfe Road and De Anza Boulevard intersection. The eastbound bus stop near De Anza Boulevard will also get a makeover with a boarding island and dedicated bike lane space.
