Cupertino Upgrading Streetlights to Energy-Efficient LEDs
As part of its Capital Improvement Program, the City of Cupertino is moving forward with a major streetlight upgrade. Approximately 2,100 existing fixtures across the city will be replaced with energy-efficient LED lights. This citywide effort will reduce energy consumption and align with dark sky standards, improving the quality and direction of nighttime lighting. The upgrade will generate approximately $1.9 million in cost savings over the next two decades. Tanko Lighting is leading the project management, and Bear Electric is handling the construction work. The installation is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Disco at Dusk
On Friday, June 20, the City’s Parks and Recreation Department hosted its third annual Disco at Dusk—an evening filled with dancing, music, and fun. With an International Night theme, attendees grooved to a lively mix of global hits through wireless headphones. Each headset lit up in different colors, letting dancers see which channel others were enjoying. A new addition this year was EcoValley’s craft station, where guests had the chance to make their own bracelets. The area was beautifully decorated with a solar-powered light-up art display, adding a creative and eco-friendly vibe to the night.
Thank you to everyone who spent the evening grooving with us!
Online Vision Zero Collision Dashboard Goes Live
As part of the City’s recently adopted Vision Zero Action Plan, staff have launched an online collision dashboard to increase transparency and support roadway safety goals. The dashboard provides public access to data on all reported roadway collisions in Cupertino from 2018 to 2024. Updated annually, this tool helps track citywide collision trends, evaluate the effectiveness of safety improvements, and identify high-risk areas for future upgrades. It also allows users to filter by age, date, collision factor, and severity.
The dashboard is available on the City’s Vision Zero webpage: Vision Zero Action Plan and Collision Dashboard Cupertino CA.
