 Held every second Monday at rotating restaurants across Cupertino, these meetings are an opportunity for residents and businesses to engage with the Mayor in a relaxed setting for meaningful conversations and community connection. The next Monthly Chat with Mayor Chao will take place on Monday, May 12, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Lee’s Sandwiches, located at 20363 Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino’s St. Joseph Plaza.
In addition to the conversation with the Mayor, local businesses from St. Joseph Plaza will be there to welcome attendees. Celebrating Public Service Recognition Week
May 5 to May 11 is Public Service Recognition Week—a time to recognize and thank the dedicated individuals who serve our community through local, state, and federal government roles. Here in Cupertino, we’re proud to honor the public servants who work behind the scenes every day to make our city a great place to live. Whether it’s keeping our parks clean, maintaining trees and streets, organizing recreation programs and events, supporting local businesses, guiding thoughtful development through building and planning, or helping us stay prepared for emergencies, these efforts make a real difference in the community. Pride Month Flag Raising
In honor of Pride Month, the City will host a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, June 2, at 4 p.m. at the Civic Center Plaza. The community is invited to help raise the rainbow flag, which will stay up for the rest of June.
Jollyman Park All-Inclusive Playground Ribbon-Cutting
Join us for the grand reopening of Jollyman Park, featuring the brand-new All-Inclusive Playground, on Friday, June 13, at 1 p.m. This thoughtfully designed playground provides a welcoming, accessible space for individuals of all ages and abilities. It encourages play, recreation, and connection, regardless of physical or developmental differences. We look forward to celebrating this new addition to our community with you.

Torre Avenue and Pacifica Drive Water Main Replacement Project
The City of Cupertino has started the Torre Avenue and Pacifica Drive Water Main Replacement Project, an essential infrastructure upgrade designed to replace aging water lines and enhance service reliability for residents and businesses in the area.
Construction began earlier this month and will continue in phases through June. Work will occur Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., excluding holidays and major City events.

May 12 to May 30: Final connections for domestic water, hydrants, fire services, and irrigation (13 working days)

What to Expect
Traffic and Parking Impacts: Parking along Torre Avenue will be limited during construction. Traffic control measures may lead to delays, so please plan your travel accordingly.
Service Notifications: Any scheduled water service interruptions will be communicated in advance. Notifications will be provided with at least 72 hours’ notice, including City Hall and the Cupertino Library alerts.

Active Transportation Plan – Stay Involved!
Thank you to everyone who joined Cupertino’s Active Transportation Plan workshops! The recording is available at cupertino.gov/atp. As Phase I wraps up in June, your input is helping shape the Plan’s vision and goals. Phase II begins in July and will focus on identifying priority projects, backed by a financial strategy and implementation roadmap.

Accessory dwelling units (ADUs)--second units, granny units, casitas, or cottages--support your family and community. Help Your Teen Build Leadership Skills
Is your teen an incoming 8th to 11th grader looking for meaningful ways to get involved and grow as a leader? The Cupertino Youth Activity Board (YAB) is now accepting applications! YAB is a volunteer leadership program through Cupertino Parks and Recreation where teens plan events for their peers, give back to the community, and develop valuable life skills in teamwork, communication, and leadership.
The application deadline is Sunday, June 1, at 11:59 p.m. Apply at cupertino.gov/yab.
Join the Fun: Play Walk n' Roll Bingo!
Cupertino Safe Routes to School launched its first Walk n' Roll Bingo for kindergarten through 8th grade students from Thursday, May 1 to Saturday, May 31! Complete bike, walk, or scooter activities on the bingo board to win prizes. Get five in a row for a bingo prize—or complete all 25 squares for a blackout and a chance to win a raffle prize!

Middle School Bike Skills Summer Workshops
Get ready to ride! In partnership with Wheel Kids, Cupertino Safe Routes to School is bringing back its Middle School Bike Skills workshops for middle school students and their parents. These interactive sessions will cover essential traffic laws, safe riding practices, and bike handling techniques to help families build confidence and stay safe on the road. Workshops will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cupertino Senior Center on the following dates: June 8, June 22, August 10, and August 24.
Whether you're new to biking or need a refresher, these workshops are a great way to prepare for biking to school and around town. Sign up at cupertino.gov/saferoutes.

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Newsletter
This month’s newsletter highlights Operation Second Chance, a program offering warrant resolution without jail time for eligible individuals. It also shares progress on jail reforms, efforts to address staffing challenges, and continued community outreach. Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga held a Virtual Budget Workshop on Wednesday, May 7. The event covered Santa Clara County's budget structure, key timelines, and priorities. Community members received information and shared their input before the upcoming budget hearings.

Spotlight on Senior Tech Education in Cupertino
In partnership with the Cupertino Senior Center, Cupertino TV Productions has released a new program highlighting how local seniors adapt to today's digital world and the support they need to succeed.
The show airs next week on Bay Area cable and is available on Cupertino TV Production's YouTube channel.
Spring Used Book Sale
The Friends of the Cupertino Library will host their Spring Used Book Sale on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, May 18, from noon to 3 p.m. at Cupertino Community Hall. Browse a wide selection of fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, cookbooks, foreign language and technical books, plus CDs and DVDs. On Sunday, shoppers can fill a bag with books for just $5. Proceeds support the Cupertino Library.
Renewable Energy Science Bowl
Ecovalley Youth Foundation, a local student group, is hosting the Renewable Energy Science Bowl, a free competition for elementary, middle, and high school students focused on renewable energy and climate solutions. With over $3,000 in prizes, the event includes a quiz bowl for younger students and innovation challenges for older participants. The group is also seeking judges and community support to spread the word.
