Pride Month Flag Raising is June 7
In honor of Pride Month, the City of Cupertino will host a flag raising ceremony on Friday, June 7 at 3 p.m. in the Civic Plaza, 10350 Torre Avenue. The community is invited to help raise the rainbow flag, which will be flown for the month of June.

City Funds Fully Recovered Through Settlement
As a result of a final settlement in the City of Cupertino v Jennifer Chang case, the City will receive over $800,000 in principal and interest, making the City whole for the entire amount of the loss it suffered due to embezzlement of City funds. The City Attorney's Office notified Council at a closed session and would like to recognize the outstanding work on the case by the legal team at Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger LLP, led by René Ortega and Sarah Lucey, as well as the vital support that the Administrative Services Department provided during the litigation.

Splash Bash Hosted by Youth Activity Board
Get ready to make a splash at the Cupertino Splash Bash! This free teen event will be held at Memorial Park this Saturday, May 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. Join the Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department and Youth Activity Board (YAB) for epic water fun featuring water balloons, water guns, and more! Snacks and beverages will be provided to all, but the first 100 attendees will receive free Kona Ice. Bring your friends and dive into summer!

CARES to Participate in Service Field Day
Cupertino Amateur Radio Emergency Services (CARES) will participate in this year's Amateur Radio Relay League-sponsored Field Day on Saturday, June 22, starting at 11 a.m. Field Day is a national annual event where amateur radio operators (hams) nationwide make as many contacts within 24 hours. CARES will participate in this year's Field Day at Memorial Park just west of the Quinlan Community Center at 10185 N Stelling Road.

Register for Middle School Bike Skills Workshop
Registration is open for Cupertino’s yearly Middle School Bike Skills workshop series! These workshops are designed for students who will be in middle school this fall. They prepare students to ride to school and beyond with a course on the rules of the road, bike handling skills drills, and a neighborhood bike ride to tie all the lessons together. A guardian is expected to take the class and bike along with the student. Workshops are held at the Cupertino Senior Center, 21251 Stevens Creek Boulevard, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Register for National Night Out
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes public safety-community partnership and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Register your neighborhood for a National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. In Cupertino, we look out for each other from crime prevention to disaster preparedness and response. Together, we make our community safer.

Cupertino Named Tree City USA for the 12th Year
The City of Cupertino has been named Tree City USA by the the Arbor Day Foundation to honor the 12th consecutive year in 2023. This recognition honors the City's commitment to effective urban forest management. Tree City USA is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the United States Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Cupertino was the first of 159 Tree City communities in California to receive this designation.
The City of Cupertino achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program's four requirements:
- Maintaining a tree division
- Having a tree-care ordinance
- Dedicating an annual community and forestry budget of at least $2 per capita
- Hosting an Arbor Day observance and proclamation
Trees are an asset, and the Tree City USA designation shows the City’s commitment to growing and maintaining a healthy tree canopy and creating a greener future for the community. Learn more about our City trees at Cupertino.org/trees.
Small Business Spotlight: Rainbow Art Studio and beNatural Music
Small businesses form the bedrock of Cupertino's economy, injecting vitality into the community through their enduring contributions and enhancing the fabric of local culture. As part of the Cupertino Business Outreach Program (CBOP), Economic Development staff recently paid visits to two local businesses, each with a unique focus on art and music: Rainbow Art Studio and beNatural Music. Since 1993, Rainbow Art Studio has been a beacon of high-quality art education, enriching the lives of thousands of Bay Area students. Meanwhile, beNatural Music, which expanded to a new Cupertino facility in early 2022, continues to inspire budding musicians with its comprehensive programs. These visits underscore the City's commitment to supporting and celebrating the vibrant small business community, ensuring their continued growth and success.

Senior Center Health Expo
On Friday, May 10, the Cupertino Senior Center held its annual Live Well Age Well Health Expo. With more than 30 resource agencies present, 300-plus attendees discovered a wealth of resources tailored for adults 50 and over. From insightful presentations to invigorating exercise demos, there was something for everyone. Attendees had the chance to win fantastic prizes like a Cupertino Senior Center membership, a month of fitness at the Cupertino Sports Center, or a round of golf at Blackberry Farm Golf Course. A huge thank you to Wellcare by Health Net for sponsoring this event.
Cupertino Preschool Activities
The Cupertino Parks and Recreation Department's Cupertino Preschool had an exciting two weeks. On May 9 and 10, the kiddos rolled out the red carpet for a Mother's Day celebration, honoring moms, grandmas, and all the extraordinary women in their lives. Then, on May 15, they embarked on a thrilling field trip to De Anza College, where they ventured into space at the Planetarium, learning about planets, stars, constellations, and astronauts. After their cosmic adventure, they enjoyed a campus snack before returning to the classroom.
Volunteers Help Out at Regnart Creek
On Saturday, May 18, the Environmental Programs and Sustainability Division honored National River Cleanup Day at Wilson Park sponsored by Valley Water. The community was provided equipment and access to a creek to remove trash and litter. The City of Cupertino event had twenty-one volunteers of all ages who helped to clean up Regnart and Calabazas Creeks. A total of 249 pounds of trash was removed. Thank you to our community for helping to keep our creeks clean! The next event will be the 40th anniversary of California Coastal Clean Up Day, which will be on Saturday, September 21.
HR Labor Law Business Workshop Recap
On Monday, May 20, the City of Cupertino, Access Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and Cupertino Chamber of Commerce joined forces to host an HR Labor Law workshop. This collaborative effort brought together local businesses to delve into crucial aspects of labor law compliance and best practices. Attendees gained valuable insights and resources to navigate the complexities of HR regulations, ensuring smooth operations and fostering a positive work environment. The event exemplified the power of partnership in supporting the growth and success of businesses in Cupertino.

Invasive Fruit Fly Quarantine Lifted in Santa Clara County
Thanks to the cooperation of Santa Clara County residents and partnership with county ag officials, the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has lifted the Oriental fruit fly quarantine in the area. Although this is excellent news, the state is still at risk of invasive species infestations. You can help protect California’s fruits and vegetables by inspecting your garden for signs of invasive pests or diseases and reporting any findings to the CDFA at 1-800-491-1899.

West Valley Community Services Presents a Housing and Resource Fair
May is Affordable Housing Month and West Valley Community Services is hosting a Housing and Resource Fair at Moreland School District. The Fair will be held on Thursday, May 30, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Crafting the Vision for Mixed-Income Educator Workforce Housing
On Monday, June 3, Eden Housing, Architects FORA, and Engage FORA are excited to host the first community workshop for the mixed-income educator workforce housing project at 10333 North Wolfe Road. Attendees may join at 6 p.m., as the event will be open-house style. Parking will be available. Follow event signs upon arrival. Refreshments will be served.

Santa Clara County Fair Celebrates 80 Years
The Santa Clara County Fair is getting ready to celebrate its 80th anniversary with the theme “Celebrating 80 Years of Innovation: From the Fields to the Future.” The fair will occur from July 25 to July 28 and August 1 to August 4. It will be a nostalgic experience for people of all ages as it celebrates the rich history of innovation and diversity in Santa Clara County—the fair promises to be unforgettable, with exciting activities for everyone.
