Sister City Delegation from Copertino, Italy
On Monday, April 22, the City was pleased to host a delegation of three students and one chaperone from Copertino, Italy, one of our four sister cities. The delegation’s visit consisted of a tour of Cupertino Community Hall, City Hall, and the Cupertino Library as well as a tasty lunch catered by local business La Pizzeria.

2024 Earth and Arbor Day Festival
On Saturday, April 20, the City of Cupertino celebrated its 16th annual Earth and Arbor Day Festival. This year, Cupertino’s festival hosted 90 tabling partners, 102 volunteers, 7 sponsors, and presented 12 performances. Activities included a rock-climbing wall, Recycletek truck, Beam solar chargers, electric vehicle demonstrations, upcycled crafts, planting seeds, waste sorting, face painting, live performances on a solar-powered stage, and food trucks. A proclamation recognizing Arbor Day, was presented by Mayor Mohan, followed by tree planting at Wilson Park. Hundreds of attendees gathered in excellent weather to learn, play games, and enjoy the day.
<hack> Cupertino Recap
On Saturday, April 13, to Sunday, April 14, the Parks and Recreation department hosted its annual <hack> Cupertino. This overnight hackathon for 13 to 18-year-old aspiring coders had more than 65 participants, making up 18 teams. Each team was tasked with developing practical solutions for this year's secret theme, Accessibility. After 13 hours of coding, the top spot was claimed by The Funky Monkeys, Aravindkrishna Arivudainambi, and Vyaas Baskar, who developed CrossSight, a truly innovative solution. Second place went to Big N Small, Dhanush Ekollu, and Harjyot Singh Sahni for their impressive creation, HearIt. Third place was secured by Oreos!, Aariana Shah, Riya Ganti, and Siya Singh for their outstanding project, Book-Easy.

This Weekend: Cherry Blossom Festival
The annual Cherry Blossom Festival honoring Cupertino’s Sister City of Toyokawa, Japan, will be held this weekend on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, at Memorial Park. The event offers a wide selection of Japanese food and beverages, entertainment, demonstrations, cultural exhibits, arts and crafts, and clothing for sale. All-day entertainment takes place in the Amphitheatre. The festival benefits the non-profit Cupertino Sister City Committee, which promotes friendship and student exchange programs between the two cities. Local non-profit organizations supporting services for disadvantaged youth and sports, music, and language programs will have booths to raise funds for their groups.

Rainbow Art Studio moves to Stevens Creek
