Federal Grant Award for Bollinger Road Project
In December, the Public Works Transportation Division received a $425,600 planning and development grant award through the United States Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. This grant funding will help fund traffic modeling, community outreach, design of the recommended roadway improvements, testing of various traffic safety interventions, and some traffic enforcement along Bollinger Road. This initial phase of the project is anticipated to occur over a two-year period, beginning in the summer of 2024. The grant funding requires a local match of $106,400. The project will require coordination and collaboration with the City of San Jose, as the southerly half of Bollinger Road falls within San Jose’s jurisdiction. For more information, visit here.

These meetings offer an opportunity to connect with other Block Leaders, neighbors, and City Emergency Management staff on topics we all care about. The next event is scheduled for Thursday, January 18, at 2 p.m. We will meet at the Starbucks in the Crossroads Shopping Center, located at 20520 Stevens Creek Boulevard. Affordable Housing on Wolfe Road
The County of Santa Clara's Office of Supportive Housing is issuing a Request for Offers (RFO) with the goal of identifying a development partner for the County-controlled property located at 10333 North Wolfe Road, Cupertino. In 2019, the County initiated a process to identify County sites that may be appropriate for affordable housing. Through this coordinated effort, several sites were identified and this property represents the County’s seventh County-led development. The intent of the RFO is to select a development partner that can deliver an entitled site for a mixed income community that includes educator workforce housing by December through a robust community engagement strategy. For more information, please email the Director of the Office of Supportive Housing at Consuelo.Hernandez@hhs.sccgov.org.
Community Emergency Response Team Academy
The Santa Clara County Fire Department offers the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy to train residents on disaster preparedness skills. Cupertino residents who complete the CERT Academy are invited to join the Cupertino Citizen Corps to volunteer with the Office of Emergency Management. Participants in the academy will learn disaster preparedness, disaster medical operations, disaster psychology, fire suppression, light search and rescue, and terrorism awareness.
- The Hybrid CERT Academy is (3) evening/in-person sessions, (3) evening/online sessions, and (1) final skills exercise during the day.
- Participants must attend all seven (7) class meetings to receive a Certificate of Completion.
- Fee: $35 fee covers the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) you will receive in this course: hard hat, gloves, eye protection, and N95 mask.

Hazardous Waste Events
With the holiday season behind us, more household hazardous waste (HHW) may be generated than usual. Items include holiday lights, electronics (kid’s toys, phones, TVs), batteries, chemicals, paints, and more. Mismanaged HHW can cause fires which results in trash truck damage, service delays, and safety risks to both staff and residents. Please do your part and keep hazardous waste out of our waste stream Cupertino residents can safely dispose of hazardous waste for free at the upcoming drop-off events: Saturday, January 13 in Sunnyvale or Saturday, January 27 in Santa Clara.
To schedule your free drop-off appointment, visit hhw.org or contact the HHW Program at (408) 299-7300 or hhwstaff@cep.sccgov.org
