Travel Safely This Holiday Season
Include safe travel in your holiday plans this December. The extended weather forecast for Cupertino includes rain and cold overnight temperatures with potential for fog. Weather and road conditions can vary rapidly during this time of year. Heavily traveled routes may see delays due to slower traffic and accidents. Plan for your safety and the safety of your community by driving defensively. The California Department of Transportation offers tips for driving in winter weather. They recommend allowing time for traffic delays, buckling up all passengers, turning off cruise control when the roads are wet, reducing speed and utilizing headlights during periods of fog, moving over to allow for emergency vehicles to pass, and driving safely through road work zones. Additional information is available through the Office of Emergency Management’s webpage for extreme weather preparedness.

Cupertino Receives an A- for Climate Action
Climate action reporting organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) issued the City of Cupertino an overall score of A- for their work in 2022/2023. The CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to manage their environmental impacts. This score puts Cupertino at the “Leadership Level,” meaning our jurisdiction has demonstrated best practice standards across adaptation/mitigation, has set ambitious goals, and has made progress towards achieving those goals. The Environmental Programs and Sustainability Team look forward to a continued effort toward accomplishing the goals laid out in Cupertino’s Climate Action Plan 2.0. Parks and Recreation Department Awarded Grant
Cupertino's Parks and Recreation Department was selected as a recipient of the National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) Supporting Healthy Aging Through Parks and Recreation 3.0 (SHAPR 3.0) grant. This grant will increase access, availability, participation, and sustainable support for programs that improve physical activity, engagement, and the quality of life for older adults. This project aims to increase access to arthritis-appropriate, evidence-based (AAEBI) interventions in park and recreation.
The Cupertino Senior Center will implement a Walk with Ease (WWE) program for seniors with arthritis or other chronic diseases and all others interested in a walking program. The program will teach participants how to incorporate physical activity safely and comfortably into their everyday lifestyle.
SV Hopper Expansion and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
The City of Cupertino’s on-demand shuttle, Silicon Valley (SV) Hopper, began providing service in the City of Santa Clara on Monday, November 20. This expansion also includes a new service to the Caltrain stations located in the City of Mountain View and the City of Santa Clara.
Since going live, the service has seen a total of 1669 trips, 11 percent of which were a direct result of the City of Santa Clara expansion. The continued success of SV Hopper is a testament to the City's commitment to providing sustainable and accessible transportation options for residents and visitors. Since its launch in October 2019, the Cupertino shuttle has completed 85,019 trips.
To celebrate this expansion of SV Hopper, the City, in partnership with the City of Santa Clara, is hosting a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Cupertino Civic Center on Monday, December 18, at 11 a.m. Join us and become a part of Cupertino's new era in transportation.
