Independence Day Celebration
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Independence Day with the City. We had an incredible time, and we hope you did too. The City of Cupertino thanks the City Council, Parks and Recreation Department, Public Works Department, County Sheriff's Office, County Fire, CERTS/CARES, Ashna Yadev, and BSA Troop 688 for making this event possible.
Thank you for joining us at this event. You can watch a recording of the festivities on the City’s YouTube channel: youtube/watch?v=EUVfPrp3puE
National Night Out
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes public safety, community partnership, and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
Register your neighborhood for a National Night Out Event on Tuesday, August 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. As our communities emerge from the pandemic, it is more important than ever to get to know our neighbors. In Cupertino, we look out for each other from crime prevention to disaster preparedness and response. Together, we make our community safer.
Tomorrow (July 14) is the last day to register your neighborhood here. If you have any questions, contact Marta Drown, Block Leader Coordinator at martad@cupertino.org.
Block Leader Meeting
The next Block Leader meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, July 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. We will have presentations from the City's Innovation and Technology Division, discussing the City's online services, updated website, and mobile apps. We will also have some program news and announcements, and a program overview for potential volunteers. As a reminder, all Block Leaders are required to attend at least one meeting each year. All residents are invited to join. Please register here.
Shakespeare in the Park
The City of Cupertino is excited about the return of free Shakespeare in the Park, starting on Saturday, July 22 at the Memorial Park Amphitheater. SF Shakes will perform eight shows of Cymbeline, Shakespeare’s epic romantic adventure, which is believed to be one of his final plays and considered one of his greatest achievements. Each show is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For more information and schedule, visit sfshakes.org/performance/free-shakes.
Emergency Preparedness Training
Cupertino’s Office of Emergency Management is presenting a series of trainings specifically for your family and neighborhood. It is recommended you attend the two-part series.
The first of the series is the Personal Preparedness class. Training dates are Tuesday, July 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 5, from 8 to 9 a.m. This training will teach you what you and your family need to know in case of an emergency. This training will go over what supplies you'll need, first aid kits, how to create a communication plan, and what role the City will play in the event of an emergency.
The second of the series is the Family and Neighborhood Preparedness class. Training dates are Thursday, July 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. This training will teach you what your family needs to have in place to have a better outcome after an emergency and what your neighborhood can do together to check on each other. The training will also go over how to manage small events before they become too big to handle (fire, gas, electrical), get resources, and information to take care of each other until help arrives. Register here at cupertino-office-of-emergency-services-6855993345.
