Asm. Evan Low Secures $6 Million in Funding for City of Cupertino
CUPERTINO, CA – The City of Cupertino is pleased to receive $6 million in state funding championed by Assemblymember Evan Low for two City projects. On Tuesday, October 4, Assemblymember Evan Low will join the City of Cupertino at the City Council meeting to announce a multimillion-dollar budget investment for the City.
“The Cupertino City Council is pleased that, working with Assemblymember Low, we have secured substantial support for safe and inclusive infrastructure in Cupertino,” Mayor Darcy Paul said. “We will continue working together on all facets of issues to ensure great results.”
The investment includes funding for an all-inclusive playground at Jollyman Park and the reconstruction of the McClellan Road Bridge. Assemblymember Low made a request to the Assembly Budget Committee for these one-time allocations in May and the funding was secured in the recently passed California budget.
“I’m thrilled we were able to secure $6 million in local investment for the district,” Assemblymember Evan Low said. “These critical funding investments will go toward connecting bike and open space infrastructure and building an all-inclusive playground for our community. This funding allocation from the State helps to highlight the importance of working together with State and local leaders for shared partnerships on behalf of our community.”
Jollyman Park is one of Cupertino’s largest parks, frequented by residents and visitors. With the City’s plans to build an all-inclusive playground, community members will have the opportunity to utilize a play area designed for people of all ages and abilities. The new all-inclusive playground will support recreation and social interaction for people with autism, sensory challenges, cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities, and those without special needs.
The McClellan Road Bridge was constructed over 100 years ago. Remodeling and reconstructing this bridge will enhance public and environmental safety by ensuring the bridge is aligned with the most current building codes governing structures and seismic design.
This multimillion-dollar budget investment for these projects helps ensure that the City of Cupertino can continue to provide inclusivity and safety for all in our community.
The regular City Council meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. and can be attended both virtually and in person at Cupertino Community Hall. To view the meeting agenda or watch the meeting live, click here.
