Community Input on Housing Element Update
The City is asking for the community's input on the Housing Element Update and potential housing sites. View all of the potential sites and give your input on where you’d like to see more housing in Cupertino by clicking here. A two-question survey is available for participants to give feedback on each potential housing site. Tell us your thoughts by Thursday, August 4, and join the City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 16 for a discussion on the Housing Element sites inventory.
This 6th Cycle Housing Element Update covers the planning period of 2023 to 2031. The Housing Element is part of Cupertino's General Plan and identifies policies and programs intended to meet the housing needs of the City's current and future residents at all income levels.
Efforts to engage and inform the community about the Housing Element Update remain ongoing. The City, in partnership with EMC Planning and West Valley Community Services, held a second Community Meeting on the Cupertino Housing Element on Wednesday, July 20. The previous meeting was held on May 23 and can be viewed here. A total of 65 community members joined the virtual meeting on July 20, which was focused on the unique barriers and challenges related to housing that youth and older adults face in Cupertino and the west Santa Clara County area. The meeting featured a panel of De Anza students and older adults who shared their personal stories related to housing, particularly finding and securing affordable housing in a high-cost housing area. Meeting participants had the opportunity to speak with other community members, hear new perspectives, and share their own stories.
Additionally, the Community Engagement Plan-Strategic Advisory Committee met on Monday, July 25 and discussed ideas for a third community meeting that will be held in mid-September. The next Advisory Committee meeting will be held virtually on Friday, September 16 at 11 a.m. Details for this meeting will be available soon here.
The community is also encouraged to attend the upcoming City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 16, during which the Housing Element sites inventory will be discussed for the first time by City Council. The properties listed on the sites inventory were recommended to the Council by the Planning and Housing Commissions at a joint special meeting held on July 5.
Comments and input from the community are vital to achieve a successful Housing Element Update, and participation in the community engagement process is strongly encouraged. New Drive-Through Library Book Drop-Off
Cupertino Library patrons now have a new and convenient way to drop off their books. The City has completed construction of a new book drop-off for the Cupertino Library located at the intersection of Torre Avenue and Town Center Lane, closest to the library. This new drive-through return allows patrons to drop off their library materials without parking or leaving their vehicle.
The book return will be available for public use beginning Friday, July 29 with initial operating hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This new drop-off is a result of the Civic Center Parking Analysis, which was a study to consider ways to reduce parking demand and increase parking supply at the Civic Center.
For more information, call the Cupertino Library at (408) 446-1677.
New Interactive Zoning Application
See the specifics of how zoning code relates to your property in just a few clicks using the City's new interactive Gridics platform. You can now look up zoning code, view property records and parcel shapes, or visualize and calculate development potential—such as setbacks, allowable heights, or other dimensional requirements at the parcel-specific level—by using the new applications.
The City is partnering with Gridics LLC to adopt its next generation municipal zoning technology platform. Gridics, short for Grid Analytics, develops real estate data and software applications in the area of zoning analysis and interpretation, scenario planning, site-selection, and urban planning professional services. The platform will drive transparency for both regular citizens and developers by making it easier to visualize and interpret how zoning requirements apply to specific properties.
