Housing Element Update
The City of Cupertino continues preparing the 6th Cycle Housing Element Update, which covers the planning period of 2023 to 2031. The Housing Element is part of Cupertino's General Plan and identifies policies and programs intended to meet the housing needs of the City's current and future residents at all income levels.
A Special Joint Planning Commission-Housing Commission Meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 6:45 p.m. and will focus on the selection of future housing sites that will be included in the housing inventory. Details on this meeting will be sent through enotifications and will be available at engagecupertino.org/housingelement.
City staff efforts to engage and inform the community about the Housing Element will continue through the summer months, and will include staff attending the local farmers market and holding two community meetings similar in format to the community meeting held at Community Hall on May 23.
Comments and input from the community are vital to achieve a successful Housing Element Update, and participation in the community engagement process is strongly encouraged. Construction to Begin at Memorial Park
Beginning Thursday, June 23, the Memorial Park ponds will be under construction to be replaced with turf and landscaping. The construction is scheduled to be completed in October.
The City drained the ponds at Memorial Park in 2013 to respond to drought restrictions. The project to remove the ponds was approved and funded by City Council in Fiscal Year 2021-2022.
