Earth and Arbor Day Festival Returns to Cupertino
April 23 | 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. | Cupertino Library Park
After two years of virtual celebrations, Cupertino's Earth and Arbor Day Festival returns to a in-person event. This year's festival will be in a new location, Library Park, to allow for more activities, more social distancing, and bring us closer to the trees.
Experience a full day of family fun, listen to the music, eat delicious food from local food trucks, see the off-grid van conversation, climb on the climbing wall, and more.
This year will also have some new features:
The Museum of Tomorrow (MoT) is a traveling pop-up museum created by UC Berkeley students to increase awareness about environmental issues and solutions. This year, the MoT is bringing a plastic bottle swimming pool where you can hunt for jelly fish in a ocean full of plastic, a wish tree to write a wish for the future environment, virtual reality goggles that show sea-level rise, and more.

To help the City on its Zero Waste mission, reusable dishes will be available at the food trucks.
Food trucks at the festival will serve their food on a reusable plates or bowls for a small deposit. The deposit is then refunded when you return the dishes to the washing station. Thanks to a local company called Sparkl Reusables for helping us make this happen.

This is one stage you won't want to miss!
Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) is partnering with the City of Cupertino and Bliss Point Productions to celebrate SVCE's 5th year anniversary on a stage that is powered with solar panels on the roof. The clean energy generated from the solar stage will be used to power the audio equipment for the singers, musicians, and poets.

Single-Use Plastic Foodware could be going away
The Cupertino City Council is meeting on April 5 to discuss the Single-Use Plastic Foodware Ordinance. This ordinance will potentially ban restaurants and food service operations from serving takeout food and drinks using single-use plastic containers and accessories such as straws or stir-sticks and require reusables for dining in.

Facing another year of drought
We received very little rain during January and February, which places the beginning of 2022 as the driest in recorded history. Our county is now facing a third consecutive year of drought.
Valley Water is asking everyone to find ways to save 17 gallons a person each day. Water use in the county has gone up for the past two months compared to 2019. Let's save!
Let's turn off the tap together.

Sustainable changes to energy, transportation, waste, natural systems, and adaptation actions are coming to Cupertino.
More ways to participate
From December 2020 until November 2021, the community and City Council identified key issues and priorities for the next decade of responding to climate change. The project team has since been hard at work drafting a roadmap to a Carbon Neutral City by 2040. We are excited to release the draft Climate Action and Adaptation Plan 2.0.
There is a lot of content in this plan, so we have created a short video to sum it up. Starting April 19, you are invited to view the video summary, browse the draft documents, and take a short survey to let the City Council know your thoughts about this draft roadmap.
Sneak Preview: This Climate Action and Adaptation Plan 2.0 contains actions to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, incentives to take alternative methods of transportation, educate and encourage a zero-waste lifestyle, methods to conserve water, and preparations to adapt to changing climate risks.
Visit Cupertino.org/ClimateAction on or after April 19.
