City Plan to End Homelessness Community Kick-Off Meeting Tonight at 6 p.m.
The City of Cupertino is drafting a City Plan to end homelessness, and we are kicking off the public engagement process by hosting a virtual Community Kick-Off Meeting tonight.
The virtual community meeting will allow members of the community to give their input as we create a roadmap that will help guide the City. This City Plan is an implementation plan to address the needs of the unhoused residents of Cupertino as identified in the Santa Clara County Community Plan to End Homelessness. The plan will help direct the decisions that will be made about funding, program, and needs.
Join us to learn about housing instability in Cupertino and to develop shared goals and strategies to end homelessness in our community. This meeting will also be an opportunity to learn about the planning process, ask questions, and provide input on what services and resources are needed to serve those experiencing homelessness locally.
Community participation is integral to the planning process as it helps ensure that diverse feedback informs and shapes the City Plan. This free, virtual community meeting will be held on Thursday, February 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to all. Register for the meeting at https://cityofcupertino.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_-fXH3CwPTP-y73tZEOcRvA.

City Receives National Budget Award
The City of Cupertino has received the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Adopted Budget. This is the 24th consecutive GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award received by the City.
The award represents a significant achievement by the City and reflects the commitment of the government body and staff in meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive this budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual(s) or department designated as being primarily responsible for having achieved the award. Although this award has been presented to the City's Finance Division, it has been a highly collaborative effort across the entire organization and the Finance Division extends its sincere appreciation to City staff for their continued efforts.
There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other government agencies throughout North America. City Work Program Goals Survey
There are just a few days left for community members to provide feedback on the City's Fiscal Year 2022-2023 City Work Program.
The City of Cupertino's Work Program guides some of the major efforts of the City for the upcoming fiscal year. The City Work Program ensures that staff efforts are aligned with the goals set by the Mayor and City Council, and thus, the community. This approach keeps the City transparent and holds us accountable to focusing resources on strategies that best serve our community’s needs and aspirations.
The City is asking our community members what goals the City Council should consider for the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 City Work Program. Suggestions and feedback should be submitted by Sunday, February 13. The survey can be found at engagecupertino.org/cityworkprogram.
Suggestions and feedback will be presented to the City Council for consideration.

Cupertino Housing Element 2023-2031 Update
The wheels of Cupertino’s 6th Cycle Housing Element Update (2023-2031) keep turning! During the January 25 Planning Commission meeting, staff, commissioners, and the public had long and productive dialogue regarding the Housing Sites Selection Inventory process.
The Sites Selection Inventory process is the key next step in the Housing Element Update that will establish the properties that can accommodate Cupertino’s future housing needs.
The community is encouraged to subscribe on the City’s Housing Element website for updates and visit the webpage frequently to engage in the process, provide feedback, find key documents, see upcoming meeting dates and times, and learn other information.
Please note that on the website, the City is also inviting interested Cupertino property owners to consider completing the Property Owners Form. The City would love to hear from property owners who may be interested in future housing development.
