Silicon Valley Day 'n Night Fun Fest
The 2021 Silicon Valley Day 'n Night Fun Fest returned to Memorial Park on Saturday, September 11 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event, hosted by the Rotary Club of Cupertino and sponsored by the City of Cupertino, offered a kid's zone, cultural booths, food trucks, live music, beer tasting, and more. This community, family, cultural, and educational event brought together Cupertino's diverse community for a day of celebration and enjoyment.
Employees from several City departments set up booths at the event to connect with residents, answer questions, and offer giveaway items. Each City booth had about 250 individuals stop by and talk to City employees, ask questions, and take home goodies.
City Manager's Office
The City's Office of Communications booth offered free Cupertino-branded items such as USB flash drives, pens, pencils, and mouse pads with useful phone numbers and email addresses. Residents asked questions about upcoming City events in addition to discussions with employees about the Scene, the City's monthly newsletter magazine, Budget at a Glance, and other City communication and outreach.
The Office of Emergency Management hosted a booth at which the Cupertino Citizen Corps, Block Leaders, and Neighborhood Watch offered outreach in the festival's Health and Safety section. They also provided first-aid support throughout the festival.
Community Development Department
The Community Development Department's (CDD) Planning Division and Code Enforcement Division employees spoke with residents about what services the department provides, how permitting processes work, and information about the City's Code Enforcement Division. The CDD booth gave away children's activity packets with crayons and candy, and also received feedback from residents on various City services.
Green Team
The City of Cupertino's Green Team, the Sustainability and Environmental Programs divisions, talked to nearly 250 people during the festival. As a result, the Green Team received 51 new survey responses for Climate Action Plan 2.0 and 46 new responses for Single-Use Plastics ordinance development. The engagecupertino.org website also received 192 page views, informing people about the City's ongoing projects.
Public Works Department
The Public Works Department booth focused on promoting Cupertino 311, an online resource for reporting incidents and submitting requests to the City. Public Works employees spoke with countless residents who had already downloaded Cupertino 311. City employees further explained Cupertino 311 to residents, answering questions and encouraging them to report incidents as they see them. As a result, nearly 60 residents downloaded the app, and about 150 cherry tomato starter kits were given out as well.

Neighborhood Outreach Event Held on Public Safety
At the request of residents, members of the Cupertino Block Leaders, Neighborhood Watch, and Citizen Corps coordinated two outreach events for the Rancho Rinconada neighborhood on Sunday, September 12 and Sunday, September 18. The City of Cupertino Office of Emergency Management and Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office facilitated a discussion on public safety at these events held at the Rancho Rinconada Recreation and Park District facility.
|
|
Approximately 50 residents attended the events over the two dates. Captain Rich Urena and his deputies addressed the Homeowners' Association and extended Rancho Rinconada neighborhood by answering questions about recent suspicious activity and easing residents' hesitancy to reporting such activities. The questions and recommendations from Captain Urena will be shared through the Block Leaders, Neighborhood Watch, and Citizen Corps' communication networks. |
Block Leaders and Neighborhood Watch volunteers are reminded that these events can be scheduled throughout the year in any Cupertino neighborhood. Volunteers can request an event by emailing oem@cupertino.org. Speaker requests may include City departments and public safety agencies, such as the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, Santa Clara County Fire Department, and City of Cupertino Office of Emergency Management.
The City extends a special thanks to Captain Urena and the deputies for their very approachable manner that helped residents feel comfortable sharing their concerns and engaging in conversations about their community's safety.
