COVID-19 News and Updates

City of Cupertino Reopening Plans

Last year, the City of Cupertino closed its facilities to protect public health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of those programs, services, and events are coming back in-person in the coming months with many online services continuing.

The City has a new webpage meant to inform the public of the reopening of in-person services, programs, and events. View more information here.

Appointments Available for City of Cupertino
In-Person Services

The City of Cupertino is now reserving appointments for in-person services for Building permits, Planning permits, Public Works permits, and Business Licenses.

Cupertino Sports Center is Open

The Cupertino Sports Center is open and the City is excited to welcome members back into the gym! Equipment has been reorganized to allow for more space, sanitation stations have been set up indoors for cleaning of equipment, and contact tracing guidelines are being followed.

The current Sports Center hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, visit cupertino.org/sportscenter or call (408) 777-3160.

General City News and Updates

City Council to Consider Options for Continued Long Term Operations of Municipal Water System

Cupertino has three water service areas as shown on this map. The orange area is owned and operated by San Jose Water Company (SJWC). The green area is owned and operated by California Water Service Company. The purple area is served by a water system owned by the City of Cupertino and operated by San Jose Water per a lease agreement executed in 1997. The current lease agreement is set to expire in September of 2022. On July 20, 2021, the City Council will consider options for the continued long term operation of the Cupertino Municipal Water System. A copy of the staff report will be posted when available.

Cupertino Lobbyist Registration Portal Now Live

The City of Cupertino's lobbyist registration portal went live on Thursday, July 1.

In February, the City Council adopted an ordinance regulating lobbying activities in Cupertino with the operative date of July 1.

The ordinance allows the City to investigate and audit lobbying activity within its jurisdiction related to the City's decision-making processes. Lobbyists are required to register with the City annually, and the Cupertino Municipal Code requires lobbyists to pay an annual registration fee set by the City Council.

Summer Concert Series 2021

Get ready, Summer Concerts are back!

Every Thursday, from July 15 to August 12, the City will welcome the community to Memorial Park Amphitheater from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to dance and sing along to some of your favorite local bands. See the band lineup at cupertino.org/summerconcert.

Join the Cupertino Summer Bike Challenges this July

During the month of July, the City of Cupertino is hosting five summer bike challenges to encourage anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Cupertino to explore their community, exercise, and have some fun - by bike!

You can participate in as many challenges as you’d like. Each challenge gives you the chance to earn a prize, redeemable during the City’s 8th Annual Fall Bike Fest on September 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall.

Why are we doing this? Cupertino is a wonderful place to ride a bike! The weather is beautiful most of the year, most of the City is flat, and there are miles of trails, bike lanes, separated bike lanes, and bike boulevards throughout the City which make biking safe, easy, and enjoyable. We'd like to see the community get out and ride a bike this summer!

Fourth of July Celebration Kits

To celebrate the Fourth of July, the City created and handed out 700 fun Fourth of July Celebration kits for residents made available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Kits included an insulated cooler tote, color-changing tumblers, confetti poppers, American flags, glow wands, a popsicle mold tray, and craft kit. Additional items were donated by the Santa Clara County Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Office.

City Communications Regarding COVID-19

The City of Cupertino continues to monitor the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as the safety of our residents remains our highest priority. All City facilities remain closed until further notice. While City Hall is closed to the public, the City continues to provide essential services online at cupertino.org and by phone at (408) 777-3200. These essential services include responding to 311 requests and maintaining the City’s infrastructure, among others. For detailed and up-to-date information regarding COVID-19, visit U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Santa Clara County Public Health Department.
