At the direction of the City Council, staff began evaluating opportunities to strengthen our local economy, diversify City revenues, support job creation, and advance Culver City’s long-term economic development goals.
Beginning in the spring, this work included evaluating the potential acquisition of The Culver Steps through the Culver City Public Finance Authority (CPFA). The opportunity warranted careful consideration given The Culver Steps’ role as a key asset in our downtown and the City’s previous investment in the property and surrounding area.
Over the past several months, staff conducted a thorough due diligence process and financial analysis to assess the property’s value, financial feasibility, potential risks, and long-term implications for the CPFA and the City. Following that analysis and continued discussions with the CPFA Board of Directors, we determined that acquiring The Culver Steps would not be in the best interest of the CPFA at this time.
Our willingness to explore this opportunity—and ultimately our decision not to move forward—reflects the disciplined approach the CPFA will continue to take when considering significant public investments and Culver City’s overall economic ecosystem. Economic development remains a priority, and we will continue to proactively evaluate opportunities that strengthen our commercial districts, support local businesses, create jobs, generate new and diversified revenue sources, and contribute to Culver City’s long-term economic vitality.
As we consider future opportunities, we will remain thoughtful and strategic about focusing on investments that can deliver meaningful, sustainable value for the Culver City community.
