Next Weekend: Culver City's Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

Join us for a New Tradition!

The City of Culver City invites you to a free, family-friendly Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Saturday, September 27th from 5 PM to 10 PM at the Glorya Kaufman Community Center and Garden on the Wende Museum grounds.

Bring your family and friends for an evening filled with music, dance, films, art, food, and community. No RSVP needed—just show up and celebrate!

MUSIC + DANCE | Garden Stage

• Hispanic Heritage DJ Set
• Grupo Flor de Aztlán – student performers from Culver City Unified School District showcasing regional Mexican dances (Colima, Sinaloa, Jalisco)
• El Haru Kuroi – East LA experimental Latin Jazz/Post-Punk trio with multilingual lyrics (Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, English)
• Fermín Sinfonntes – modern salsa with a contemporary edge

FILM SCREENINGS | A-Frame Theater

• 5:30 PM: The Chicano Collection / La Colección Chicana (2005 documentary featuring Cheech Marin and Chicano artists)
• 6:30 PM: Margaret Garcia: Against All Odds | Razón de Ser: Luis C. Garza | Craft in America: Collectors
• 7:15 PM: Artist Panel Discussion with Margaret García, Luis C. Garza, Francisco Palomares, and José Lozano
• 8:00 PM: Artbound: The Cheech (2024 award-winning documentary about Chicano art in L.A.)
• 9:00 PM: Artbound: América Tropical: The Martyr Mural of Siqueiros (2023 documentary on L.A.'s Olvera Street mural)

ART ACTIVITIES | Upstairs Classroom & Garden

• Papel picado workshop with América Madrigal-Herrera
• Bilingual storytime reading of Little Chanclas with artist/author José Lozano
• Flores de Papel & Corona de Flores workshops
• Live art by Francisco Palomares (Garden)
• Art displays and community resource tables (Garden)

Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Parking

Parking is limited at the Wende Museum. Parking will be available at and around Veterans Memorial Park. Please do not park in residential areas.
