As winter approaches, evening temperatures may drop significantly. The annual Winter Shelter program, organized through the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), provides people experience homelessness with shelter during colder months. Now through March 2022, people can access this program if they are 18 years and older and experiencing homelessness.
The City’s contracted outreach team, St. Joseph Center, will direct and coordinate access for anyone seeking shelter to one of these sites throughout Los Angeles County. Prior arrangements must be made to ensure that beds are available. The shelters will operate 24 hours a day and will follow COVID-19 protocols, including administration of a screener questionnaire and daily temperature checks.
For more information, please visit LAHSA’s Winter Shelter program webpage. City staff will circulate and share the Winter Shelter Program flyers throughout the city, including the library, school district, the Senior Center, parks, Wende Museum, and coffee shops.
If you see anyone who could use services, please contact the City’s Homelessness Hotline at (310) 253-6767 and provide the approximate location of the individuals or the encampment. City staff will contact the St. Joseph Center outreach team to provide services. Please review Culver City’s plans and programs addressing homelessness to learn more about what the City is doing.
About LAHSA
In December of 1993, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the Los Angeles Mayor and City Council created LAHSA as an independent, joint powers authority. LAHSA is the lead agency in the Los Angeles Continuum of Care, which is the regional planning body that coordinates housing and services for homeless families and individuals in Los Angeles County. LAHSA coordinates and manages over $800 million annually in federal, state, county, and city funds for programs that provide shelter, housing, and services to people experiencing homelessness.
Additionally, LAHSA has various partners to integrate services and housing opportunities to ensure wide distribution of service and housing options throughout the Los Angeles Continuum of Care. For any inquiries or more information, please email wintershelter@lahsa.org or visit Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority's website.
