4. Everyone 12 and Up is Eligible for a COVID-19 Vaccine
Everyone 12 years and older in LA County is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. For now, only the Pfizer vaccine is approved for children, so make sure to go to a site that administers the Pfizer vaccine for children and teens aged 12 – 17. Many sites require that children be accompanied by a parent or guardian or that the child is accompanied by a responsible adult and has a signed consent form. Teens are also required to bring proof of their age at sites where they are not known to the provider. Find a location that has the Pfizer vaccine near you.
Need help? Call the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) Vaccine Call Center at (833) 540-0473 if:
You don’t have a computer or need help making an appointment
You need transportation to a vaccination site
You are homebound and need to get vaccinated at home
The DPH call center is open daily from 8 AM to 8:30 PM to help schedule appointments; dial (833) 540-0473 if you are in need of assistance. Information is also available in multiple languages 24/7 by calling 2-1-1. For more information, visit the Vaccinate LA County website.
5. Free Rides to Vaccination Sites
For people struggling to get to a vaccination site, Public Health can help get you a free ride there and back. The Uber and Lyft rideshare apps are offering free roundtrip rides to some vaccination sites within their apps. However, if you are seeking assistance scheduling a ride or if you want to get your vaccination at a site not listed in the app, you can reach out to the Public Health call center at (833) 540-0473 and you will be connected to free transportation.
6. Digital Vaccine Records
The CDC white card or CAIR record is your official proof of your COVID vaccination. You may receive a digital record in addition to your white card as a convenience, but it may not be accepted at all places/companies as the official proof of vaccination.
Several different kinds of digital reminders and records are being used in LA County. The type depends on the record keeping system used by the provider who administered the vaccine. Most systems require the person being vaccinated to give an email address and/or cell phone number when they make an appointment or get vaccinated. Ask your provider when you get your vaccine about a digital record.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) has partnered with Healthvana to provide a digital copy of the vaccination record to people who are vaccinated at Department of Public Health locations, select community clinics (that are not part of a hospital system), pharmacies, or FEMA sites in Los Angeles County. If you received a vaccine at one of these locations, you should receive an email from vaccine@Healthvana.com and/or a text message from Healthvana with a secure link (most text messages will display as 37586). When you click the link in the email or text, you will be asked to enter your first name, last name, and date of birth to confirm your identity. You can then download your record and, if you have an iPhone, put it in your Apple wallet.
Due to the sheer volume of vaccination records being processed, there may be a delay in receipt of your digital record from Healthvana.
For more information on Healthvana and electronic records, see the DPH “After you get a vaccine” webpage.
