1. California Announces June 15th as Targeted Reopening Date
Los Angeles County recently moved to the Orange Tier in the State's Blueprint for a Safer Economy that allowed the County to expand permitted activities in several key sectors including bars, breweries, wineries, and distilleries, family entertainment centers, gyms, movie theatres, restaurants, retail establishments, grocery stores, and outdoor live events with required safety measures in place including masking and distancing requirements. View the Health Officer Order and Reopening Protocols on the LA County Department of Public Health website.
Now that 4 million people have been vaccinated who are living in communities across the state in the Healthy Places Index quartile 1, LA County’s daily case rate must be at or below 5.9 new cases per 100,000 people and the County's test positivity rate must be at or below 4.9% to remain in the Orange Tier. To move to the less restrictive Yellow Tier, the County's case rate must be less than 2 new cases per 100,000 people and test positivity must be less than 2%.
Yesterday, the State released updated numbers. LA County's adjusted case rate remained at 3.1 new cases per 100,000 people. The test positivity rate dropped from 1.5% to 1.4% and in areas with the fewest health affirming resources, LA County’s test positivity rate dropped from 2.1% to 1.9%.
As we move through the reopening tiers, remember to continue to keep each other safe.
2. Updated Travel Advisory
The Los Angles County Department of Public Health updated their Travel Advisory and Guidance on April 5, 2021 to include guidance for fully vaccinated persons. Non-essential travel out-of-state or out-of-country is still not recommended. For those who must travel, the following applies:
All travelers who are not fully vaccinated should get tested with a COVID-19 viral test 1-3 days before travel. Travel should not be initiated until a negative test result is returned.
All travelers who test positive or develop symptoms of COVID-19 must isolate and follow County isolation instructions. Do not travel when symptomatic or with a positive COVID-19 test result, regardless of vaccination status.
Registration is required for a vaccine appointment. Eligible LA County residents with internet access and a computer are urged to use the Vaccinate LA County website to reserve an appointment. For those without access to the internet, or with disabilities, a call center is open daily from 8 AM to 8:30 PM to help schedule appointments; dial (833) 540-0473 if you are in need of assistance. Please note that this phone line is reserved for people with disabilities or for those who don’t have internet access.
No legitimate surveys about the COVID-19 vaccine will ask for your credit card or bank account number to pay for a “free” reward. If you get an email or text you’re not sure about:
Don’t click on any links or open attachments. Doing so could install harmful malware that steals your personal information without you realizing it.
Don’t call or use the number in the email or text. If you want to call the company that supposedly sent the message, look up its phone number online.
4. Have a Safe and Joyous Ramadan – Please Celebrate Safely
We wish you and yours a Generous Ramadan! No matter which springtime holiday you’re celebrating, protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Please remember that private gatherings that include more than three different households are not yet allowed. Remember to:
Hold nightly prayers at home
Limit Eid celebrations to 3 or fewer households outdoors
Mosque services and prayers can be held indoors at 50% capacity.
5. COVID-19 Counts in Culver City and LA County
The City of Culver City mourns the loss of our residents who have passed away, which sadly includes the passing of residents due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The County of Los Angeles Public Health Department tracks COVID-19 cases and deaths of County residents.
Culver City’s Case and Death Counts – as of April 6, 2021
Cases in Culver City – 2,169
Deaths in Culver City – 104
Cases in Los Angeles County – 479 new cases were reported today (1,233,174 cases to date)
Deaths in Los Angeles County – 53 new deaths were reported today (23,340 deaths to date)
Public Health has identified one case of the South African variant, B.1.351, and three cases of the Brazilian P.1 variant, both variants of concern. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classified the South African and Brazilian variants as variants of concern, because they are potentially associated with increased transmissibility and reduced susceptibility to certain therapeutics. Although these are the first reported cases of the South African and Brazilian variant in LA County, it is likely there are additional undetected/undiagnosed cases. To date, 33 cases of the Brazilian variant and 10 cases of the South African variant have been reported in California.
Among 70 specimens analyzed at the Public Health Laboratory this past week, 64% of the specimens analyzed were the UK variant of concern, B.1.1.7 and 20% were the California variant of concern identified as B.1.427 or 429. This means 84% of the variants identified this past week are variants of concern with the probability of increased transmissibility and more severe disease. Three cases of the New York variant were also detected this week, which is a variant of interest. There were no cases of the Brazilian P.2 variant identified this week.
