Wellness During COVID-19
1. Please Stay Safe
COVID-19 is still in our communities, and we need to keep staying safe. Make sure to wear your face covering every time you are around those you don’t live with, and please follow these other basic health safety measures.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recently reported that the City of Culver City has one of the lowest adjusted case rates in the County and one of the highest vaccination percentages in the County at 22.7%
Beginning this week, Los Angeles County began offering vaccines to education and childcare workers, workers in the food and agriculture sector, and emergency service workers. All eligible workers are now able to sign up for appointments at various community vaccine sites including pharmacies, health clinics, and City of LA vaccination sites listed on the Vaccinate LA County website.
Learn more about the different vaccination tiers and find out when it’s your turn to receive your free COVID-19 vaccination, by visiting the Vaccinate LA County website.
Registration is required for a vaccine appointment. Eligible LA County residents with internet access and a computer are urged to use the Vaccinate LA County website to reserve an appointment. For those without access to the internet, or with disabilities, a call center is open daily from 8 AM to 8:30 PM to help schedule appointments; dial (833) 540-0473 if you are in need of assistance. Please note that this phone line is reserved for people with disabilities or for those who don’t have internet access.
Per the State’s COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation Guidelines, beginning March 15, healthcare providers may use their clinical judgment to vaccinate individuals age 16 – 64 who are deemed to be at the very highest risk. View a list of high-risk conditions on the State’s Vaccine Plan webpage or register on the MyTurn website to be notified when you’re eligible to receive your vaccination.
COVID-19 vaccine remains limited in LA County. When Johnson & Johnson doses come into LA County, a vaccine that has shown to prevent COVID-19 related hospitalization and death, Public Health officials are hopeful this will improve vaccine supply. Los Angeles County continues work mitigating barriers and increasing access to vaccine to eligible residents and workers in the hardest hit communities.
Yesterday, the LA County Department of Public Health hosted a COVID-19 Vaccine Virtual Town Hall during which public health experts gave the latest updates on the vaccine and answered several questions from the community. Watch the Vaccine Town Hall meeting on YouTube now.
3. Outdoor Youth and Adult Recreational Sports Will be Allowed with Safety Measures
Updated State guidance allows all outdoor youth and adult recreational sports, including moderate contact and high contact sports, to resume practice, training and competitions in counties where the case rates meet certain benchmarks. Moderate contact sports include: baseball, field hockey, softball, and volleyball, all outdoors, and high contact sports include: football, basketball, rugby, soccer, and water polo, all outdoors. All activities must be done in compliance with Public Health's Reopening Protocol for Youth and Adult Recreational Sports Leagues.
The Culver City Parks, Recreation & Community Services (PRCS) Department has begun work to re-open outdoor youth and adult recreational sports safely and in a manner that ensures all participants are aware of the new regulations and plan to adhere to them. Certain activities are currently open, such as City outdoor basketball hoops for casual play. Other activities will take longer to reopen. PRCS is in the process of meeting with all user groups to ensure they know all the regulations that must be followed, answer questions, and prepare organizers to inform their participants of the new rules. Youth Sports with competition and rentals at the Plunge will begin on Monday, March 8, 2021. Plunge aqua therapy classes, Culver City Unified School District Water Polo, and Adult Sports rentals will begin on Monday, April 5, 2021. PRCS is still determining when the City’s adult softball league will be able to resume.
Thank you for your patience as we work to get these activities up and running again in a manner that is safe for everyone. If you have any questions, please call the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department at (310) 253-6650. For questions regarding field rentals, please email Arames White-Shearin or call her at (310) 253-6678. Los Angeles County remains in the most restrictive purple tier in the State's Blueprint for a Safer Economy. To move into the less restrictive red tier that allows for additional re-openings, LA County’s daily case rate must be at or below 7 new cases per 100,000 people and the County's test positivity rate must be at or below 8%. Yesterday, the State released updated numbers; LA County's adjusted case rate is 7.2 new cases per 100,000 people and the test positivity rate is 3.5%. If Los Angeles County's adjusted case rate drops to 7 new cases per 100,000 people next week, the County must continue to show a case rate of 7 new cases per 100,000 people or less for two consecutive weeks before it can move to the red tier and be eligible for additional re-openings, including on-site learning for grades 7 through 12. The State releases case rates every Tuesday.
