Free Fare for Cleaner Air!
As a public transit provider operating a fleet fueled entirely by renewable compressed natural gas (CNG), clean air in our region is close to our heart. This year, we are proud to join the Coalition for Clean Air in support of California Clean Air Day on Wednesday, October 7, 2020!
Earlier this year, Californians achieved some of the cleanest air in several years due to the stay-at-home period during which people have commuted much less, resulting in reduced car emissions and pollution for our environment. Fast-forward to present day, and we are seeing some of the worst air quality as wildfires blaze through California and nearby states. We have the ability to address this crisis and invite you to join Culver CityBus and the Coalition for Clean Air to do your part to create clean air in our community. On October 7th, Culver CityBus is proud to offer free rides to encourage community members to leave cars at home and ride the bus for cleaner air.
We all have the power to play an active role in protecting the health and well-being of our communities. Make your commitment to clean air official by reducing vehicle use by riding environmentally-friendly public transit!
By commuting via biking, walking and/or taking public transit, you’ll avoid traffic, get a workout in – and best of all – you won’t have to search high and low for a parking spot! You’ll also contribute to the City’s efforts for cleaner air and reduced traffic congestion in our region.
Culver CityBus has joined the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and transit agencies across the nation in committing to specific measures to help ensure the safe return of riders as the U.S. recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
APTA’s national “Health and Safety Commitments Program” seeks to show riders exactly what transit agencies are doing to help keep transit as safe as possible and slow the spread of COVID-19. Under the partnership, Culver CityBus will commit to:
Cleaning and Safety Measures
Culver CityBus is taking action to ensure the safety of our riders and operators during COVID-19:
Buses are cleaned, and high touch surfaces are disinfected regularly.
Hand sanitizer is available on the bus for operators and passengers.
Actions are being taken prevent overcrowding.
Protective shields have been installed.
As part of this campaign, Culver CityBus asks riders to do their part by following best health practices and avoiding transit when not feeling well, and:
Wear a face covering that covers both mouth and nose during your trip (face coverings are available upon request)
Maintain 6 feet of physical distance as much as possible while on board
To address community health concerns related to air quality, the City of Culver City has pledged to participate in 2020 California Clean Air Day. The City's efforts promote reducing pollution in the air, which matters more than ever with the impacts of COVID-19 being exacerbated by local air quality. It also serves to educate the community with examples how everyone has a role in clearing the air and increasing the health of our community.
Designed around individual actions, California Clean Air Day is a non-profit, statewide program built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to action to improve our community health. On October 7, 2020, millions of Californians will take simple, individual actions to clear the air and improve their personal and their community’s health while still being socially distant. Over 650,000 people participated in 2019, and it is anticipated that many more will participate in 2020.
