1. New Video from Mayor Göran Eriksson
Mayor Göran Eriksson thanks the community and discusses the ways the City is beginning to carefully and safely reopen businesses in coordination with the County and surrounding cities.
2. Face Coverings are Required to Ride Culver CityBus
Culver CityBus requires all transit riders to wear a face covering upon boarding and while riding on the bus. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Authority and other surrounding transit systems are also requiring face coverings to be worn on buses and trains in order to slow the spread of COVID-19. All face coverings must cover your nose and mouth. Remember that face coverings are not a substitute for staying home, practicing social distancing, and frequent handwashing.
Acceptable, reusable face covering options for the general public include:
Bandanas
Neck gaiters
Homemade face coverings
Scarves
Tightly woven fabric, such as cotton t-shirts and some types of towels
3. Update from Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Last week PRCS staff hit the 6,000 meal mark for our Senior Nutrition lunch program! Since March 16th, we have served 6,000 meals to seniors in our community and are happy to deliver a meal and a smile on our 19 delivery routes! Thank you to Northgate Market for their generous donation of bags to help deliver our meals. If you are a business or individual looking to help, we need unused, boxed grocery bags with handles for this program; please contact jill.thomsen@culvercity.org if you are able to donate.
The Senior Center staff continues to receive notes of thanks and calls from our members as we call and check in on at least 1,500 seniors a week. Check out this creative handmade thank you card from Marilyn and Rick that we received in the mail!
The PRCS team put together a thoughtful Mother's Day postcard that was mailed out to all 3,000 members of the Culver City Senior Citizens Association. This postcard is a reminder that Mother's Day is truly for all women who love with a mother's heart. It encouraged seniors to take the time to think about a woman who has been a strong and caring influence in their life.
4. Clean Power Alliance COVID-19 Relief Program
Clean Power Alliance (CPA) is here to help customers during COVID-19. CPA understands choosing between rent, bills, and groceries or payroll is a situation no family or small business should have to face, especially during a crisis. CPA believes customers deserve reliable and affordable electricity with manageable payments. That's why Clean Power Alliance created a $1 million COVID-19 Relief Program that provides bill assistance to impacted residential and small business customers who sign up for financial assistance through Southern California Edison (SCE). Applicable to customers who enroll in CARE, FERA, or Medical Baseline and who call SCE at (800) 655-4555 to get on a payment plan. Please visit the Clean Power Alliance website to find out if you are eligible for $25 to $50 electricity bill credits, available on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are exhausted.
Please remember to follow infection control practices at all times, as the virus has not gone away.
Wear a cloth face covering when around others outside your home. While you are not required to wear a face covering when walking in your neighborhood, be prepared and carry your cloth face covering with you in case you pass by someone else. For example, please have a face covering available when approaching people on the Ballona Creek Bike Path.
Maintain a physical distance of 6 feet between yourself and others.
Self-isolate for 10 days and three days after you are symptom-free if you have or are likely to have COVID-19.
Self-quarantine for 14 days if you are exposed or in close contact with an infected person.
