Citywide Coronavirus Update - April 19, 2020

The City of Culver City continues to cooperate with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to respond to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Los Angeles County.

Do You Need a Volunteer?

1. Stay Home, Save Lives

Safer at Home orders are still in place in the City of Culver City, Los Angeles County, and throughout California. Stay at home unless you need to get food, get necessary health care, or go to an essential job. When out for essential trips, stay at least 6 feet away from other people, frequently wash your hands, and wear a cloth face covering.

The County and City orders are in place through at least May 15. California’s Stay at Home Order is in place until further notice. Governor Gavin Newsom outlined six critical indicators California will consider before modifying the statewide Stay at Home Orders and other COVID-19 interventions.

Monitor and protect communities through testing, contact tracing, isolating and supporting those who are positive or exposed
Prevent infection in people who are most at risk
Handle surges in the hospital and health systems
Develop therapeutics to meet demand
Ensure businesses, schools, and child care facilities can support physical distancing
Determine when to reinstitute certain measures, such as the stay-at-home orders

2. Public Health Reminders

The LA County Department of Public Health reminds everyone that if you are ill, even with mild symptoms, please self-isolate at home for 7 days and until you are fever and symptom free for 72 hours. If you have been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 or is presumed to be infected with COVID-19, you must quarantine for 14 days from your last contact with that individual. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or are pregnant may be at higher risk of serious illness and should contact their doctor as soon as they are sick.

3. Questions about your pet’s health during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Talk to your veterinarian if you have concerns. There is no evidence at this time that pets can spread the virus that causes COVID-19. Learn more about pets and COVID-19 by viewing the LA Department of Public Health’s Pet Owners FAQ or see information from the CDC regarding pets.

4. We Are Here for You

We are here for you. The Culver City Coronavirus Hotline is available 7 days a week between 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM. If you or someone you know have questions or need non-emergency assistance, call us at (310) 253-6890 or send us an email.

5. Free, Same-Day COVID-19 Tests Available

As of this morning, free, same-day tests are available for all LA County residents, including Culver City residents, who have COVID-19 symptoms. Symptoms include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. If you or a loved is experiencing symptoms, please know the following factors do not affect eligibility for a COVID-19 test:

Immigration status
Insurance status
Age
Underlying health issues

To ensure sites can prioritize people who need it most, ONLY people who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms AND have made an appointment, are eligible for testing at this time.

STEP 1: Visit the COVID-19 testing website.

STEP 2: Answer a series of questions. The answers determine if you are eligible for an appointment.

STEP 3: If you are eligible, you will receive an appointment confirmation number by email.

STEP 4: Bring the confirmation number and photo ID to your appointment.

For LA County residents with no access to the Internet:

Dial 2-1-1 for help making an appointment.

For LA County residents without a car:

You can still get tested! Testing sites can accommodate pedestrians, as long as you have an appointment.
NOTE: there are NO walk-up appointments available for people who have not registered.

7. You Are Not Alone

If the news surrounding COVID-19 is making you feel stressed, anxious, or depressed, visit the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) COVID-19 mental health resource page, call their 24/7 hotline at (800) 854-7771 or text LA to 741741 to get help.

8. Do You Need a Volunteer?

If you or someone you know has a non-emergency, non-medical need related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and you would like assistance from a volunteer, please email the City or call the City’s Coronavirus Hotline at (310) 253-6890 (7:30 AM to 5:30 PM). If you email or leave a message at the Hotline after hours, please include your name, address, phone number, email address, and your need. In an emergency, please dial 9-1-1.
