Culver City Responds to First Known Resident Death of COVID-19
The City of Culver City responded today to an announcement yesterday by the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (Public Health) that a Culver City resident has died of COVID-19. The individual who died was older than 65 with underlying health conditions. The City does not have any additional information other than what has been reported by Public Health.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our resident who passed away," said City of Culver City Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells. "It is so important that everyone respect the ‘Safer at Home’ order that the City has issued. Staying six feet away from others and staying at home except for essential activities such as shopping for food is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect lives."
Because there are positive cases across the entire County, the public should not think one location is safer than the other. People should assume anyone could have COVID-19 and could be unintentionally infecting others. Public Health is investigating all new cases and will notify close contacts who are household members, intimate partners and healthcare professionals to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. All confirmed cases are being isolated and close contacts are quarantined. It is critically important that everyone adheres to all the social distancing measures and practice good public health hygiene, including washing hands as frequently as possible.
Culver City Dial-A-Ride Changes Due to Coronavirus COVID-19
Effective immediately and based on the March 20, 2020 City of Culver City “Safer at Home” Order calling for all residents to remain at home, the Culver City Dial-A-Ride Service will only be available for essential travel, which includes grocery shopping and medical appointments. All other requests will be declined at this time.
Riders who previously used Dial-A-Ride to pick up their meals from the nutrition program at the Culver City Senior Center can send a neighbor, family member or relative to pick up the meals, or contact the Senior Meals program at (310) 253-6712 to schedule the meals to be delivered.
Additionally, if any rider is ill or experiencing any signs or symptoms of illness, including those most common with the coronavirus (COVID-19), we ask that you not ride the Dial-A-Ride, but rather contact your medical provider for further direction or call 9-1-1 only if it is an emergency.
Please Help Your Neighbors
If you are able to assist a neighbor who is 65 or older, or a neighbor who has an underlying medical condition, reach out via phone, text, or drop a note on their doorstep to ask if they need anything before you go to the grocery store or pharmacy. We are all in this together.
Cancellation of Spring Enrichment Classes, Camps and Programs
Due to the uncertainty of when City facilities will reopen, the Spring 2020 Enrichment Season is being cancelled and registration for the Summer 2020 Enrichment Season is being postponed. Once a plan is made for reopening, staff will review program offerings and determine which programs will open for full registration, which will have an abbreviated schedule, and which will be cancelled.
Currently, indoor/outdoor facility rental reservations are not being accepted. Reservations will resume once the date City facilities will reopen is determined.
Culver City Unified School District Schools

Waivers and Rule Changes to Assist Businesses
The City Order issued on March 20, 2020 includes the following provisions to assist businesses:
· Extension of the deadline for submission of Culver City business taxes approximately 60 days to June 1, 2020.
· Wavier of outdoor dining license fees
· Waiver of valet parking license fees
· In order to allow businesses to communicate they are open for pick-up and/or delivery of food, applicable CCMC restrictions related to outdoor business signage (including “sandwich board” signs and temporary banners) are suspended. All signs must be placed preferably on private property or in such a manner to allow for pedestrian access along the public right-of-way.
Parking Restriction Changes for Food Delivery and Pick-up
The City Order issued on March 20, 2020 also includes the following provisions to facilitate food delivery and pickup:
· Temporary parking is permitted in loading zones and special rideshare pickup zones solely for the purpose of food delivery and pickup.
· Parking fees for all meters and pay machines for on-street parking spaces are waived for the first 15 minutes.
Do Not Overbuy Food or Supplies
There is no shortage of food or home supplies. As stressed by the California Governor and the White House on March 15, there is no need to stockpile these items.
