Volunteer Opportunities in January 2020

2020 Homeless Count - Wednesday, January 22, 2020 Become more hands-on and engaged in local efforts to address homelessness. No experience required! The Culver City Housing Division is taking the lead in conducting Culver City's 2020 Homeless Count on the evening of Wednesday, January 22, 2020, between 8:00 p.m. and midnight. This is a collaborative effort among cities and part of the 2020 Greater Los Angeles County Homeless Count. Volunteers are teamed up, trained, given all needed supplies and deployed to designated areas throughout the city to count the homeless - in one night. Just a few hours of your time can make the difference in someone finding permanent housing. To sign up visit the LAHSA website.

Screenland 5K - Sunday, February 9, 2020 Volunteers are needed for various shifts at the 4th annual Screenland 5K which takes place in downtown Culver City. Shits run from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. and tasks vary and include: starting line, finish line medals, course monitor, registration, water station, setup/tear down, t-shirt distribution and more. Volunteers of all ages are welcome and volunteers will receive a free event t-shirt, lunch and service hours if needed! If interested please sign-up on the 5K website.

Local Non-Profit Spotlight : Culver City Walk & Rollers Safe Routes to School programs were established to provide resources to cities, schools and communities to help them encourage more children to walk and bike to school more often. Simply put, more children walking and biking to school, means more active children and less cars on the road, creating safer, cleaner communities. Volunteers with Culver City Walk ‘n Rollers will be signing up to be a part of “walking school buses” to the nearest elementary school in their neighborhood. Volunteers help escort children safely to school along a short route through neighborhoods. Culver City Walk ‘n Rollers volunteers also help with special events for children and families throughout the year.
