Culver City’s City Council
Adopts 2018-2023 Strategic Plan
On October 22, 2018, the City of Culver City’s City Council adopted its 2018-2023 Strategic Plan–a roadmap to bringing the vision of a flourishing Culver City to reality. The 2018-2023 Strategic Plan affirms the City Council’s pledge to live up to Culver City’s heritage as the “Heart of the Screenland” and commitment to making Culver City the ideal place to live, do business and visit.
The Plan, developed by Mayor Thomas Aujero Small, Vice Mayor Meghan Sahli-Wells and Council Members Göran Eriksson, Alex Fisch and Daniel Lee, is a guide for upholding and accomplishing key priorities over the next five years. Dr. Yolanda Gorman served as the Strategic Plan Facilitator, and she also prepared the Strategic Plan document.
In its strategic planning, the Council sought to find a balance among Culver City’s needs, available resources and best practices. The outcome of its decision-making process is represented by the five goals outlined in the 2018-2023 Strategic Plan: ensure long-term financial stability, enhance mobility and transportation, revitalize Ballona Creek, enhance housing and homeless services, and transform the Inglewood Oil Field.
“The Council has many aspirations for Culver City, the most important being the long term, sustainable success and growth of our stakeholders,” said Mayor Small. “From our residents to our businesses to our visitors, we believe that the five priorities outlined in the Plan will create a Culver City that we can all be proud of and happy to be a part of in our community.”
The Plan is a part of the City’s toolkit for advancing and supporting the community. It ensures effective and efficient execution by calling for the implementation of an annual City Council-Adopted Budget.
As a part of the City Council-Adopted Budget, the Council and City staff will work together to identify one-year objectives for each strategic goal; develop steps to achieve each objective; identify human and financial resources necessary to accomplish each of the steps; identify a timeframe for completion of each action step; and develop benchmarks for success and an action plan for tracking progress. The Budget will also contain the assignments of organizational responsibilities, a schedule to implement the actions and costs. Additionally, a Work Plan will identify performance measures the City can use to gauge its progress.
“This Plan is the product of the Council’s thoughtful consideration of what’s right for the City. The City Council has outlined goals that are important to the advancement of our community, and I’m confident in our team’s ability and drive to accomplish them,” added Mayor Small. “We’ve made many strides forward, but we still have work to do for our City and all those we serve. The Strategic Plan will help get us to the prosperous Culver City we all want to embody.” The community is invited to learn more about the Strategic Plan on the City’s website.
