On July 8, community members came together to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Alexander Hughes Community Center. This milestone celebration featured entertainment and activities for all ages, including a recreation open house, interactive games, an obstacle course, food trucks, and live demonstrations.
Residents, both past and present, came together to commemorate the Alexander Hughes Center’s 25 years of serving the Claremont community as a place for recreation, connection, and lasting memories.

Exterior Painting at Regency Theatre (450 W Second Street)
Beginning Monday, July 20, 2026, Ranack Corporation will perform exterior painting at 450 W Second Street as part of the Regency Theatre renovation.
The public sidewalk adjacent to West Second Street and North Oberlin Drive will be temporarily closed in order to stage lift equipment. Signs for pedestrian detours will be posted. Parking stalls and curbside parking adjacent to the theatre will also be temporarily closed to avoid overspray. “No Parking” signs in closure areas will be posted in advance. The work is expected to be completed on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
Claremont Boulevard Update
Claremont Boulevard is anticipated to partially reopen on Friday, July 24, assuming no unforeseen circumstances arise. Claremont McKenna College has been working in coordination with the City to facilitate the partial reopening of Claremont Boulevard, restoring vehicular access between Foothill Boulevard and Sixth Street. Upon reopening, one travel lane in each direction will be available, and the newly installed traffic signal at the intersection of Claremont Boulevard and Ninth Street will be fully operational.
Although vehicular access will be restored between Foothill Boulevard and Sixth Street, Claremont Boulevard will remain an active construction zone. Motorists and cyclists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes whenever feasible. Temporary traffic control will be posted to direct traffic safely around active construction areas.
As part of this improvement project, significant infrastructure enhancements have been completed, including the installation of a new traffic signal, construction of an underground pedestrian crossing, installation of new underground utilities, and construction of bike lane medians. The remaining work includes landscaping, installation of new street lighting, and construction of the sidewalk along the east side of Claremont Boulevard.
The City appreciates the public's continued patience and cooperation as these final improvements are completed.
 Household Hazardous Waste Round Up
On Saturday, July 25, the Los Angeles County Public Works Department and Sanitation Districts will be hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event from 9am to 3pm at the Fairplex in Pomona.
The Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Collection Program (HHW) gives Los Angeles County residents a legal and cost-free way to dispose of unwanted household chemicals that cannot be disposed of in the regular trash.

Last week, the Claremont Police Department visited Camp Claremont during its Hometown Heroes Spirit Week.
Campers had the opportunity to meet officers, interact with police K-9s, explore police equipment, and learn about the importance of teamwork, public safety, and community service.

Yarn Crafts for Kindness
Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, or other yarn-related crafts? Yarn Crafts for Kindness meets every Tuesday from 2pm to 3:30pm and welcomes participants of all skill levels. Yarn crafters use their talents to create blankets, scarves, hats, gloves, and other handmade items that support individuals in need through nonprofit organizations.Those working on projects for family, friends, or personal enjoyment are also encouraged to join this friendly and creative group.

Aging Next Resource Specialists
In partnership with AgingNext, the Claremont Senior Program offers access to two Resource Specialists who provide support with both everyday tasks and more complex life challenges.
Services include assistance with sending emails or faxes, scheduling appointments, and navigating issues such as housing, health insurance, and in-home care services. Resource Specialists also offer comprehensive case management, working one-on-one with participants to develop and follow a personalized action plan tailored to their goals and needs.
Resource Specialists Eddie Tapia and Laura Galindo are available at the Joslyn Center Monday through Thursday from 9am - 2pm.

National Night Out
The Claremont Police Department is proud to announce the 2026 National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 4 from 6pm – 8pm.
The event will feature Claremont Police Department vehicles, booths, displays, food trucks, as well as games and prizes for the kids. The Movie in the Park that night, Zootopia 2, will begin at dusk. For more information, click the link below.
Monday Night Concerts
The City of Claremont and the Kiwanis Club of Claremont are proud to announce the Monday Night Concerts, through August 24, starting at 7pm.
Each night, a different genre of music will play to provide a well-rounded summer concert series.
