SB 707 Zoom Participation
On October 3, 2025, Governor Newsom signed into law SB 707 which makes sweeping revisions to how legislative bodies conduct public meetings. SB 707 is intended to diversify and increase public engagement in local government and modernize the Ralph M. Brown Act to reflect advancements in communication technology.
Beginning in July, City Council meetings will be conducted with two-way teleconferencing on Zoom. The public may submit public comments in-person, on Zoom, or in writing. For each agenda item, time will be allocated first for in-person comments, followed by comments submitted via Zoom.
To comply with SB 707, The City has also adopted a policy outlining procedures for service interruptions that may occur during a meeting.
Upcoming City Council Discussion Regarding Rent Stabilization
During its April 14, 2026 meeting, the City Council directed staff to return at a future date with an update regarding rent stabilization. The report is anticipated to be presented at the regular City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 6:30pm in the Council Chamber, located at 225 W. Second Street.
Community members who wish to provide written comments for the City Council’s consideration may email Deputy City Manager Katie Wand using the link below. Please note that while the names of commenters are not redacted, identifying information such as email addresses, mailing addresses, and phone numbers is removed prior to publication.
Residents will also have the opportunity to provide public comment during the July 14 meeting, either in person or via Zoom, in accordance with the City’s meeting procedures.
Golden State Water Compliance Project
Beginning Monday, June 29, 2026, Golden State Water will begin construction of a new water main and service pipelines to meet a California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) compliance deadline by the end of the year.
Work will take place in the following locations:
-
Springfield Street (Arrow Highway to W. Oak Park Drive)
-
St. Augustine Avenue (Springfield Street to Oak Park Drive)
-
W. Oak Park Drive (S. Indian Hill Boulevard to St. Bonaventure Avenue)
-
Coe Street (Springfield Street to St. Bonaventure Avenue)
-
Creighton Circle (Springfield Street to end of cul-de-sac)
Construction will occur Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm, excluding holidays or as otherwise directed by City staff.
All project streets will remain open to traffic during construction. However, temporary lane closures, approved detours, and traffic control measures will be necessary at various stages of the project. Motorists should expect periodic delays when traveling through the work area.
Please note that construction will not occur on all listed streets simultaneously. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September 2026.
For questions regarding the project, please contact the City's Engineering Division at (909) 399-5465.
Claremont Colleges Utility Mapping Project
Over the past several weeks, The Claremont Colleges have been conducting a utility mapping project that has resulted in the spray chalk markings currently visible on City streets. While most of the work is taking place on private college campuses, portions of public streets have also been included to accurately map underground utilities.
The City is working with The Claremont Colleges to ensure that pavement markings are removed within 10 days after utility locations have been documented.
The project is expected to be completed by September. The City will continue to provide updates on the project and the removal of roadway markings as information becomes available.
For more information, click the link below or contact the Engineering Division at (909) 399-5465.
 Coyote Safety Tips
Claremont is located in an urban–wildlife interface, where residents may occasionally encounter coyotes. Coyotes are most active in late winter and early spring, particularly between January and March. To help protect yourself, your home, and your pets from coyotes, please follow these safety tips:
- Closely supervise small pets when outdoors
- Remove outdoor pet food and bird feeders
- Pick up fallen fruit promptly
- Regularly clean barbecue grills
- Eliminate access to water on your property, such as standing water or bird baths
Due to a recent increase in coyote sightings, the City, in partnership with Inland Valley Humane Society and the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, will host a community workshop on coyote awareness and safety on Tuesday, July 16 at 6pm. This informational meeting will be held at the Alexander Hughes Community Center.

Explore Public Transportation Options in Claremont
Claremont residents have access to a variety of public transportation services that can help reduce traffic congestion, save money, and support a more sustainable community.
Regional transportation providers serving Claremont include Foothill Transit, Metrolink, Access Services, and the Pomona Valley Transportation Authority (PVTA). Together, these services provide local and regional travel options for residents, commuters, students, and visitors.
Metrolink’s San Bernardino Line connects Claremont to destinations across Southern California, while Foothill Transit operates bus routes throughout the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, including convenient service to local colleges. PVTA operates the Claremont Dial-a-Ride program, providing convenient curb-to-curb transportation within Claremont and helping connect riders to regional transit services, including the Claremont Metrolink Station. These first- and last-mile connections make it easier for residents to access destinations throughout the region without relying solely on a personal vehicle.
Using public transportation can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and lessen traffic congestion. Even occasional transit use can make a positive impact while providing a convenient alternative to driving.
For more information, visit:
Whether commuting to work, attending school, or exploring Southern California, public transportation offers a practical and sustainable way to travel.
