In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and designated the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week. Peace Officers Memorial Day pays special recognition to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting the safety of others.
National Police Week recognizes the contributions of law enforcement personnel across the nation. The City of Claremont thanks the officers of the Claremont Police Department for their service to the community and honors those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Emergency Rental Assistance Referrals - SGV Home
The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) is now accepting referrals to its SGV Home Program for renters in need of emergency rental assistance. Eligible households include low-, very low-, or extremely low-income households who have experienced a qualifying emergency within the past 12 months, such as an eviction lawsuit, loss of income, medical emergency, or threat of displacement or housing instability.
After a referral is submitted, eligibility will be determined by the SGVCOG or its service providers. City staff’s role is limited to submitting referrals and does not include determining eligibility or administering the program. Please note that eligibility and referral to the program do not guarantee the provision of financial assistance.
Once a tenant is referred, a service provider will be assigned to work with eligible households to identify appropriate financial assistance and case management needs. Services may include referrals to legal assistance, employment resources, and other supportive services. For more information, including how to request a referral, please visit the City’s tenant assistance webpage via the link below.
Park View Development Project Update - 2475 Forbes Avenue
Construction activities for the Park View Development Project are underway, with contractors now moving forward with the installation of a sewer line that will run through the southern portion of La Puerta Park.
Fencing installation is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 18, with work in this area anticipated to be completed within approximately four weeks. The fencing will be positioned to allow for the continued use of the sports fields and is not expected to impact upcoming soccer games.
Street Closures for Pomona College Commencement Weekend
The streets in and around the Village will be busy this weekend as the Claremont Colleges will be holding Commencement festivities. Plan ahead as several streets around the Colleges will be temporarily closed on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17 for the Pomona College Class Day Reception and the Pomona College Commencement Ceremony and Parade.
Below are the closure dates and locations:
- May 16 – College Avenue (4th Street to 6th Street) 2:30pm-4:30pm
- May 17 – College Avenue (4th Street to 7th Street) 8am-2pm
- May 17 – 6th Street (Harvard Avenue to College Way) 8am-2pm
Parking and traffic around the Colleges and in the Village will be impacted by these activities, so please allow extra time and drive safely. The City of Claremont would like to congratulate the Class of 2026!
Claremont Boulevard Street Closure
Claremont McKenna College’s contractor is beginning Phase 2 of the Claremont Boulevard construction project. As part of this phase, traffic control patterns between Ninth Street and Foothill Boulevard will be adjusted.
Traffic flow will shift from using the inner lanes (adjacent to the center median) to the outer lanes (adjacent to the sidewalks). This change will allow access to the outer lanes while the inner lanes are temporarily closed for construction. Detour signs will be posted throughout the area to help direct traffic safely around the work zone.
The Claremont McKenna project includes the installation of a new traffic signal at Ninth Street and Claremont Boulevard, construction of an underground pedestrian arcade, complete streets improvements including protected Class IV bike lanes, and related utility work. Construction is expected to continue through August 2026. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation throughout this project.
