2026 Reforestation Program
The 2026 Reforestation Program is in full swing! Residents interested in obtaining a new City tree are encouraged to contact the Community Services Department at trees@claremontca.gov.
City trees are planted within City rights-of-way and not on private property. All proposed sites must be evaluated and approved by a City arborist prior to planting. Several factors are considered when determining whether a location is suitable for planting, including:
- Adequate growing space
- Potential interference with utility lines
- Sufficient distance/traffic clearance, and
- Availability of maintenance resources
For more information about the City's Reforestation Program, visit our webpage via the link below.
Grid Trimming Has Begun!
The City’s contracted tree trimming company, West Coast Arborists (WCA), will continue pruning all City-owned trees within the Grid 2 area, which includes Foothill Boulevard to 1st Street. This work began in early October and will continue through the winter, with completion expected in early spring. During this time, traffic control will be in place and minor traffic delays may occur. Since this activity may also result in increased noise and traffic, we appreciate your patience and understanding.
All City trees are pruned on a regular basis using the highest professionally accepted standards to encourage healthy growth while preserving their health, structure, and natural appearance. For more information about street tree pruning, please contact the Community Services Department at trees@claremontca.gov or (909) 399-5431.

New Carryout Bag Requirements
Effective January 1, 2026, SB 1053 introduced new restrictions on the types of bags that can be distributed at certain retail locations.
Under this law, plastic carryout bags, including thicker plastic bags that were previously permitted under the state's reusable bag standards, will no longer be allowed at checkout in grocery stores and many other retail locations. Retailers may continue to offer paper bags at checkout for a minimum fee of 10 cents, or shoppers may bring their own reusable bags.
Beginning January 1, 2028, paper carryout bags sold by stores must be made with at least 50% post-consumer recycled material. This law builds on California's earlier plastic bag regulations and is intended to reduce plastic waste entering landfills and the environment.
