Offices Closed/Trash Delayed
City facilities will be closed for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, January 19. For non-life threatening emergencies, such as downed trees or water leaks, please call the Police Department at (909) 399-5411. Residential refuse collection will be delayed one day all week.
Priorities Planning 2026-28
The community is invited to provide feedback as the City Council prepares to develop a list of objectives and work items to guide staff’s work plan for the 2026-28 budget cycle.
Priorities Workshop
The City Council Priorities Workshop will take place on Saturday, January 31 at 9am. This meeting will be held in-person in the Council Chamber and there will be an opportunity for in-person public comment (same structure as regular City Council meetings). All public comments received via the survey and during the community outreach forums will be shared with the City Council for its consideration prior to the Workshop.
Los Angeles County Emergency Rent Relief Program
The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) is now accepting applications for the Los Angeles County Emergency Rent Relief Program. This program provides financial assistance to qualifying property owners and tenants impacted by recent emergencies, including emergency financial hardship.
Please note that the application period closes on Friday, January 23, 2026. Tenants may not directly apply for this Program but can refer their landlords by completing the form on the DCBA website (link below). For more information, please contact the DCBA at (877) 849-0770.
Hotel and Motel Ordinance Update
After months of review and input from stakeholders, including commissions, community members, staff, and hotel/motel operators, a Hotel/Motel Ordinance was adopted by the City Council on March 28, 2023.
The City Council also directed staff to:
- Establish a City Interdepartmental Team (CIT) to proactively address criminal and nuisance activity at hotels and motels, particularly at freeway motels, and
- Provide an annual progress report to the City Council and the community each year in January regarding the effectiveness of the Hotel/Motel Ordinance.
The 2025 Annual Hotel/Motel Ordinance Report is agendized for the January 27, 2026, City Council meeting. Meeting material, including the CIT’s fourth quarterly report for calendar year 2025, will be available on the City’s website on January 22, 2026.

This contest presents an opportunity for Claremont students to honor and remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other champions of human rights and social justice. K-12 students who live in or attend school in Claremont may participate.

FAFSA Workshop for Incoming College Students
The YAC is excited to host a FAFSA Workshop on Wednesday, January 28, from 4pm to 5pm. This session will help students and families complete the FAFSA, get answers to their questions, and feel confident navigating the financial aid process. Whether you’re just starting or need help finishing up, we’ve got you covered!

Applicants Sought for Independence Day Committee
Application Deadline Extended to January
Residents interested in taking a more active role in the City’s decision-making process are encouraged to apply for appointment to a committee. Applications are currently being sought for appointment to the Independence Day Committee (IDC).
The IDC was established to advise the Community and Human Services Commission on information related to the Fourth of July Celebration and recommend policies and regulations to govern the celebration. Committee members will be called upon to help develop goals and outcomes of the celebration, engage the community, and review and evaluate programs.

Movie Night - January 30
The Special Needs & Inclusion Program is excited to invite individuals with special needs and their families to its first-ever Movie Night. This event is open to all ages and abilities and will feature a movie screening in a welcoming, sensory-friendly environment. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.
This free event will be on January 30 from 6pm to 8pm at the Alexander Hughes Community Center (1700 Danbury Rd). Registration is required.

Senior Scam Stoppers Breakfast
Join us from 8:30am to 10:30am on Friday, February 27 for a Senior Scam Stopper Breakfast—a welcoming morning of good food and helpful information. Enjoy breakfast while a friendly panel, presented in partnership with the Office of Assemblymember John Harabedian, shares practical tips on how to spot and avoid common scams. Come learn, connect, and leave feeling more confident about protecting yourself. Registration Link
Life Story Writing for Older Adults
Transform your life experiences into powerful stories. This free introductory creative writing workshop emphasizes writing memoir/personal narratives that are informed by one’s experiences. This class is organized in a workshop model to allow students to present works in progress to the group and to receive useful feedback and advice for the revision process. This activity meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 2:40pm starting April 21 through May 7, 2026, at the Blaisdell Community Center (440 S. College Avenue).

These classes are a part of the Continuing and Non-Credit Education Program provided by Citrus College.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Appointments Now Available!
Trained volunteers from AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will be available to provide free assistance to taxpayers with low to moderate income. Services will be offered by appointment at the Joslyn Center on Thursdays, from February 5 through April 9. Joslyn Center staff can assist with scheduling appointments or taxpayers can schedule their own appointments online through the AARP Tax-Aide website.

Youth Programs Closed for MLK Day - January 19 In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, both the YAC and TAC will be closed. Programs will resume the following day with regular hours and activities.
Teen Committee Meeting - January 21 The Teen Committee’s monthly meeting will be held in the Movie Room at the YAC on Wednesday, January 21, from 3:45pm to 4:45pm. This dedicated group of teens meets regularly to discuss ideas and plan future events for youth in our community. Stay tuned for future updates and upcoming events!
Dinner at the YAC (Ramen Bar) - January 23, 3pm-5pm Join us for an evening filled with food, fun, and community. Participants will enjoy a build-your-own Ramen Bar, time to hang with peers and play games in a chill after-school setting. TAC participants may register for transportation through Dial-A-Ride or come on their own.

All Claremont students in grades K-6 are invited to enter their ideas for the theme of the 76th Annual 4th of July Celebration. Each theme submitted must be five words or less and have no more than 36 characters. The student with the winning entry will receive Firework Show tickets, a certificate, a special place in the parade, and will lead the flag salute at the Flag Raising Ceremony. The deadline to submit an entry in the Theme Contest is March 16, 2026.
