Citywide Survey
A citywide survey is available on the City’s website through January 8, 2026. Survey Link
Community Outreach Forums
The City hired a facilitator to host two community outreach forums:

Priorities Workshop
The City Council Priorities Workshop will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 9am. Night Work at 215 Yale Avenue
On Thursday, December 18, beginning at 11pm, contractors will restore the asphalt at 215 Yale Avenue to complete utility improvement work performed last month. This work is expected to take one night and be completed by 6am on Friday.
The work will impact the southbound traffic lane on Yale Avenue. Yale Avenue will remain open to traffic, with flaggers on site to assist with traffic control; however, motorists should expect delays when traveling along Yale Avenue between Second Street and Bonita Avenue during this time.
“No Parking” signs will be posted to designate the areas needed to perform the work. Sidewalk access will remain open throughout the construction period.
A contract inspector provided by the City and paid for by the applicant will be on site to conduct the required inspections.
For questions, please contact the Engineering Division at (909) 399-5465
Arrow Highway, First Street, and Indian Hill Boulevard Improvements Project
Work on this project continues to progress. The Arrow Highway bus stop improvements have been completed, and paving on First Street is complete, with only minor striping work remaining.
Due to the upcoming holidays and the New Year, the Indian Hill Boulevard paving portion of the project is scheduled to begin during the week of January 5, 2026. This work is anticipated to be completed by Friday, January 16, 2026, weather permitting.
Major roadway work, including grinding and paving operations, is scheduled to occur at night between 10pm and 6am, Monday through Friday. A City-hired contract inspector will be on site during all construction activities.
Access to Indian Hill Boulevard will remain available during construction, with intermittent traffic stops as necessary. Freeway on- and off-ramps will be impacted during paving operations, and approved detours will be in place to direct traffic while access to the I-10 Freeway is affected. Caltrans has issued a permit authorizing the contractor to perform this work during the nighttime hours of 10pm to 6am.
Impacts to I-10 Freeway access are expected only on nights when work requiring Caltrans-approved traffic control is actively underway, and not continuously throughout the January 5 through January 16 timeframe.
Daytime work may be required for minor activities such as manhole adjustments and crack filling; however, these activities are expected to have minimal traffic impacts. Foothill Transit has been notified regarding bus stop operations during construction along Indian Hill Boulevard, and detour signage will be placed at Foothill Transit’s discretion.
For questions, please contact the Engineering Division at (909) 399-5465.
Update on City Interdepartmental Team
A City Interdepartmental Team (CIT) was established to proactively address criminal and nuisance activity at hotels and motels, particularly at freeway motels. The City Manager is pleased to announce that Cynthia Guerra has been appointed to serve as the Citizen Representative on the CIT. Cynthia is a long-time Claremont resident and she looks forward to serving on the CIT! The Annual Hotel/Motel Ordinance Report will be presented at the January 27, 2026 regular City Council meeting. Meeting material, including the Q4 2025 CIT Report, will be published on January 22, 2026. For more information on the City’s Hotel/Motel Ordinance and the CIT, please visit the link below.
Emergency Preparedness Update

The Committee approved a draft Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for City Council consideration. Accordingly, staff will present a formal report and the draft EOP at the regular City Council meeting on January 13, 2026. To review the draft EOP and learn more about the Committee’s work, please visit the link below.
Claremont Police Receive Grants to Improve Road Safety
The Claremont Police Department has received two grants totaling $198,000 in funding from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to strengthen traffic safety efforts and improve how crash and citation data is reported, with both programs running through September 2026.
The funding will support:
- Enhanced traffic enforcement and education to reduce crashes, serious injuries, and fatalities
- DUI checkpoints and impaired-driving patrols
- Distracted driving enforcement focused on California’s hands-free cell phone law
- Enforcement to protect people walking and biking
- Targeted efforts addressing speeding, failure to yield, red-light and stop-sign violations, and unsafe lane changes
- Community traffic safety presentations and regional enforcement partnerships
- Officer training in impaired driving detection
- A new electronic crash and citation reporting system to report data faster and more efficiently, helping identify traffic safety needs and guide education and enforcement efforts
“These grants strengthen our ability to make Claremont’s roads safer while improving how we track and respond to traffic safety concerns in the community,” said Police Chief Mike Ciszek. Funding is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Holiday Recycling and Composting
During the holidays, residents can significantly reduce waste by making full use of the City’s recycling and organic recycling (composting) programs.
- Send tasty leftovers home with guests in reusable containers to be enjoyed.
- Compost additional food scraps like vegetable peels, fruit rinds, coffee grounds, eggshells, and bones by placing them in your green organics container.
- Place clean cardboard boxes, paper packaging, greeting cards (without glitter or foil), and beverage containers into your blue recycling container, breaking down boxes to save space.
- Keep plastic bags, ribbons, bows, tinsel, ornaments, lights, and foam packaging out of both recycling and organics bins, placing them in the black trash container instead.
By sorting holiday waste correctly, residents can reduce landfill use, support local composting efforts, and help the City turn seasonal leftovers into valuable resources. For more information regarding effective recycling, please contact the Community Services Department at (909) 399-5431.
