Arrow Highway, First Street, & Indian Hill Improvements
The City has contracted Hardy & Harper, Inc. to complete the Arrow Highway Transit Improvements, First Street Pavement Rehabilitation, and Indian Hill Boulevard at I-10 Improvements. Construction began on Monday, October 27, with work starting on the Arrow Highway Transit Improvements. The First Street Pavement Rehabilitation followed on October 31, and work on Indian Hill Boulevard (from San Jose Avenue to American Avenue) is anticipated to begin in mid-November.
On Friday, November 7 and Saturday, November 8, the City’s contractor will be crack-filling and performing deep removal and replacement of asphalt sections of First Street in preparation for paving operations to start on Monday, November 10. This work is necessary to stay ahead of the rain forecasted for late afternoon on Wednesday, November 12.
Access to First Street will remain available with intermittent stops in traffic as necessary for this work to be completed, and vehicles traveling along First Street can expect delays during this time. Foothill Transit has been contacted regarding service at bus stops while this project on First Street is being completed, and detour signs will be placed at Foothill Transit’s discretion.
The project is expected to reach substantial completion—with temporary striping on First Street and Indian Hill Boulevard—before Thanksgiving. Final striping and overall project completion are scheduled for late December. Please note that these dates are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen conditions.
Claremont Boulevard Closure
Claremont Boulevard is now closed to through traffic in both directions between Foothill Boulevard and Sixth Street to support construction of the CMC Roberts Campus Sports Bowl.
Detours are in place to guide drivers around the closure area. The project will include installation of a new traffic signal, pedestrian pathways, complete streets enhancements, and all associated utility work.
Construction is anticipated to continue for approximately ten months.
Help Shape Claremont’s Active Transportation Plan!
The City of Claremont is developing an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) to make it safer and easier for everyone to walk, bike, roll, and take transit. The plan will look at ways to improve connections and reduce barriers across our streets and pathways.
Community input is key! The City has partnered with Alta Planning and Design to create the plan based on feedback from residents. Alta will host a mix of in-person and virtual workshops, pop-up events at City gatherings, and has launched a project website with online engagement tools.

Pooch Park Temporary Closure
The Pooch Park will be temporarily closed from Saturday, November 1 through Monday, December 1 for biannual turf maintenance and rest. This regularly scheduled maintenance helps keep the park’s turf healthy and vibrant throughout the year.
During this period, the City’s landscape contractor will aerate the turf, flush and refresh the soil, remove invasive weeds, and allow the turf to rest and recover. These routine activities support the long-term health and appearance of the park.
While Pooch Park is closed, residents are encouraged to visit other pet-friendly locations in Claremont, including the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, Thompson Creek Trail, and Rancho San Jose Park. Residents may also visit dog parks in nearby cities, such as San Dimas, Upland, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga.
