Local Resource Assistance
All City of Claremont services and programs continue to operate as normal during the government shutdown.
However, as the shutdown continues, some residents may experience delays in state and federal benefits. California officials have announced that CalFresh benefits may lapse beginning November 1.
If you or someone you know is facing food insecurity or other challenges due to the pause in benefits, the City has compiled a list of local assistance programs.
For a comprehensive guide to Countywide resources, please call 2-1-1 or visit 211la.org.

Community input is key! The City has partnered with Alta Planning and Design to create the plan based on feedback from residents. Alta will host a mix of in-person and virtual workshops, pop-up events at City gatherings, and has launched a project website with online engagement tools.
Upcoming Workshops:
-
🏛️ In-Person: Wednesday, November 5 | 6pm–7:30pm | Alexander Hughes Community Center
-

Pooch Park Temporary Closure
The Pooch Park will be temporarily closed from Saturday, November 1 through Monday, December 1 for biannual turf maintenance and rest. This regularly scheduled maintenance helps keep the park’s turf healthy and vibrant throughout the year.
During this period, the City’s landscape contractor will aerate the turf, flush and refresh the soil, remove invasive weeds, and allow the turf to rest and recover. These routine activities support the long-term health and appearance of the park.
While Pooch Park is closed, residents are encouraged to visit other pet-friendly locations in Claremont, including the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park, Thompson Creek Trail, and Rancho San Jose Park. Residents may also visit dog parks in nearby cities, such as San Dimas, Upland, Ontario, and Rancho Cucamonga.
For more information, please contact Community Services at (909) 399-5431.

The City is in the beginning stages of planning improvements to Larkin Park including the playground, restrooms, park lighting, and more. There will be a kick-off meeting on November 6 at 6:30pm at the Joslyn Center, 660 Mountain Avenue. Everyone is welcome. Come ready to share your suggestions and ideas.
Annual Tree Pruning Has Begun
West Coast Arborists (WCA) has begun pruning trees in Grid 2, which includes the area between Foothill Boulevard and First Street. This work began in early October and will progress through the winter, concluding in the early spring. All City-owned trees will be trimmed within this area.
All City trees are pruned on a regular basis using only the highest professionally accepted standards, and in a manner that will encourage good development while preserving their health, structure, and natural appearance.
Traffic control will be in place and minor traffic delays may occur. Since this activity may result in some noise and extra traffic during this period, we ask for your patience and understanding. For more information regarding street tree pruning, please contact the Community Services Department at trees@claremontca.gov or (909) 399-5431.

2026 Reforestation Program
The 2026 Reforestation Program is in full swing! If you are interested in a new City tree, please contact Community Services. Factors considered when determining a viable site include adequate grow space, any interference with utility lines, sufficient site distance and traffic clearance, as well as maintenance resources, including an adequate and consistent water source. All sites must be evaluated and approved by an arborist prior to planting. New trees will be planted between November and April to take advantage of cool weather and winter precipitation.
Newly planted trees will be watered by the City for 90-days following planting, as necessary. After the 90-day period, a water bag will be installed on the tree. From that point on property owners are responsible for watering. Newly planted trees will also receive a young tree checkup approximately 1-year after planting. This checkup includes light structural pruning, re-staking and tying, if necessary, and an overall health check.
For more information on the City’s urban forest, contact the Community Services Department at trees@claremontca.gov or (909) 399-5431.
