The Senior Program's Annual Document Shredding Event held at the Alexander Hughes Community Center was a huge success! Thanks to the 150 households that participated in the shredding event in September, the Senior Program raised an incredible $3,200 for the Claremont Senior Program’s Emergency Fund. The Senior Emergency Fund is used to help local seniors avoid evictions and utility shutoffs during tough times. A huge THANK YOU to our sponsor, Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services, and to everyone who came out and contributed. Your support truly makes a difference!

Claremont Boulevard Closure - Beginning November 3
Claremont Boulevard will be closed to accommodate construction associated with the CMC Roberts Campus Sports Bowl beginning November 3, 2025. Claremont Boulevard's north and south lanes, between Foothill Boulevard and Sixth Street, will be closed to through traffic. Detours will be established around the construction area. Street construction includes a traffic signal, pedestrian pathway, and complete streets improvements. Work also includes all related utilities. The construction is expected to last ten months.
Shared Streets Active Transportation Plan
The City of Claremont is developing an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) to make it easier, safer, and more enjoyable to walk, bike, and use transit throughout our community.
This plan will build on Claremont’s existing infrastructure to create a connected, accessible, and sustainable transportation network. It will also explore ways to improve safety, such as separating bikes and pedestrians from cars and managing traffic speeds.
Public engagement kicked off this fall with in-person and virtual workshops, pop-ups at City events, and an interactive project website where you can share your ideas. A second round of outreach is planned for spring 2026, with the final plan expected by the end of 2026.
Visit the project website where you can:

La Puerta Development - Park View Project
Park View (formally known as La Puerta) will be a community comprising of 55 detached single-family homes including a small pocket park that will provide pedestrian access to the existing La Puerta Park. The construction of this community will begin with clearing of the site and rough grading activities. The rough grading activities will begin next week and are estimated to be completed in December. The construction of the model homes is anticipated to begin early fall of 2026.
A Construction Management Plan is in place to manage construction activities throughout the build and Taylor Morrison will have site contact information posted at all times in case there are any questions.
Emergency Preparedness Update
Mayor Corey Calaycay created an Ad Hoc Committee to review the City's Emergency Management policies and practices and make recommendations for future emergency preparedness measures. The Emergency Preparedness Ad Hoc Committee approved a draft Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for City Council consideration. The Committee also directed staff to share the EOP with each City Commission during a regular meeting, after the EOP has been approved by City Council. Based on this direction, here are staff’s next steps:
- Finalize formatting/structure of draft EOP document.
- Provide a report on the work of the Emergency Preparedness Ad Hoc Committee during the joint City Council/CUSD Board of Education meeting on November 13, 2025.
- Present a formal staff report and EOP for City Council consideration in January 2026.
- Present the formally adopted EOP to each City Commission in 2026.
- Coordinate future “tabletop exercises” (larger-scale emergency drills) with some of our partner agencies who presented to the Emergency Preparedness Ad Hoc Committee over the past several months.
Based on feedback from the Committee at its October 20 meeting, there will not be future meetings of the Emergency Preparedness Ad Hoc Committee as the work of the Committee has concluded. To review the draft EOP and learn more about the work of the Committee, please visit the link below.
Pink Patch Project
Claremont Police Officers are wearing special pink patches on their uniforms during October for “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” The pink patches are designed to stimulate conversation within the community and promote public awareness about early detection and treatment in the fight against this disease.
As part of this program, the Claremont Police Department will be selling its commemorative pink patches and challenge coins to the community. Patches and coins can be purchased in the CPD lobby or by contacting Officer Jeff Dunbar at jdunbar@claremontca.gov. Pink patches are $10 each and challenge coins are $20 each, or you can have both for $25.
All proceeds will be donated to the City of Hope to fund cancer research. City of Hope is an independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes, and other life-threatening diseases. City of Hope is designated as one of only 47 comprehensive cancer centers, the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Institute.

Annual Tree Pruning Has Begun
West Coast Arborists (WCA) has begun pruning trees in Grid 2, which includes the area between Foothill Boulevard and First Street. This work began in early October and will progress through the winter, concluding in the early spring. All City-owned trees will be trimmed within this area. WCA is currently working on Foothill Boulevard and in the Village.
All City trees are pruned on a regular basis using only the highest professionally accepted standards, and in a manner that will encourage good development while preserving their health, structure, and natural appearance.
Traffic control will be in place and minor traffic delays may occur. Since this activity may result in some noise and extra traffic during this period, we ask for your patience and understanding. For more information regarding street tree pruning, please contact the Community Services Department at trees@claremontca.gov or (909) 399-5431.

2026 Reforestation Program
The 2026 Reforestation Program is in full swing! If you are interested in a new City tree, please contact Community Services. Factors considered when determining a viable site include adequate grow space, any interference with utility lines, sufficient site distance and traffic clearance, as well as maintenance resources, including an adequate and consistent water source. All sites must be evaluated and approved by an arborist prior to planting. New trees will be planted between November and April to take advantage of cool weather and winter precipitation.
Newly planted trees will be watered by the City for 90-days following planting, as necessary. After the 90-day period, a water bag will be installed on the tree. From that point on property owners are responsible for watering. Newly planted trees will also receive a young tree checkup approximately 1-year after planting. This checkup includes light structural pruning, re-staking and tying, if necessary, and an overall health check.
For more information on the City’s urban forest, contact the Community Services Department at trees@claremontca.gov or (909) 399-5431.
