Tree Removal Notification Opt-In Program
The City of Claremont strives to maintain a thriving, robust urban forest, and the Community Services Department explores all alternatives before recommending removal of a City tree. It is the City’s policy to protect and preserve healthy trees whenever possible; however, preservation of City trees is not always possible, and removal is necessary.
The City will be launching a new webpage to keep residents informed about upcoming non-emergency tree removals. Trees scheduled for non-emergency removal will be posted on the 1st and 16th day of the month with a location, photo, and cause for removal. Residents may object to the removal of a tree by filling out an online appeal form. Removals that are objected will be reconsidered and further documentation will be provided. Sustainable Claremont's Earth Day Celebration - April 27
Get ready to celebrate the Earth! Sustainable Claremont will be hosting their annual Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 27. The 2025 celebration will take place in the heart of Claremont’s historic village neighborhood at Shelton Park from 8:30am to 1pm. Come enjoy exhibitor booths from local sustainability organizations, a native plant & tree giveaway, an urban foraging walking tour, and so much more! Drug Take-Back Event - April 26
The Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) is partnering with Claremont PD for a Drug Take-Back Event on Saturday, April 26 from 10am to 2pm at the Claremont Police Department. KGI School of Pharmacy students and Police Department volunteers will accept unneeded or expired medications. Medications can be in solid or liquid form. Inhalers and sharps (syringes, insulin pens, lancets) will also be accepted. The medications will be weighed and packaged by Police Department personnel and then transferred to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for final disposal. KGI will also provide overdose education including free naloxone and fentanyl test strips given to anyone interested. Students will also be set up to do blood pressure and BMI screenings.

Park Amenities & Features
Did you know that Claremont is home to 21 parks offering lush green belts, walking paths, play structures, and sports fields? Many residents also enjoy using group picnic areas, which can be reserved for family gatherings, birthdays, and celebrations. The City website has a listing of all of Claremont's parks, along with the various features at each park. Intermittent Trail Closures at CHWP
In cooperation with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, annual trail grading operations will take place beginning Thursday, April 24. During this time, section of trails may be subject to closure to ensure safe operation of heavy equipment. Closures will occur at junctions and alternative routes will be available. Closure areas will be noted with signs and will only remain closed during work periods.
Partial/temporary trail are closed during these operations as trails are not passable when heavy equipment is in use. We kindly ask all visitors to respect the closure for your safety and to allow crews to maintain the trail system.
Pooch Park Temporary Closure in April
The Pooch Park is temporarily closed through Thursday, May 1 for biannual turf maintenance. This yearly scheduled maintenance is to ensure the turf remains healthy.
The City’s landscape contractor will remove weed grasses and aerate the turf. Aeration is the process of coring holes into the turf so oxygen, water, and nutrients can penetrate the soil. It also breaks up soil that has become compacted and hardened due to heavy use. These routine maintenance activities allow for the turf to remain healthy and vibrant during the warmer months.

City Council Meeting Summary
April 22, 2025
Here is a summary of City Council action from the regular meeting held on April 22, 2025.
Flags at Half-Staff
A Presidential proclamation has been issued stating that flags at all public buildings and grounds shall be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for the memory of His Holiness Pope Francis. Flags were lowered on April 21 and shall remain at half-staff until after the day of his interment.
Resource Fair and Talent Showcase
The City of Claremont will be hosting its first annual Resource Fair and Talent Showcase for the special needs community. The free event will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 10am to 1pm at Taylor Hall, located at (1775 N. Indian Hill Boulevard). The event is open to the public and will include vendors for the special needs community, a DJ, outdoor activities, a sensory zone, arts and crafts, refreshments and more.
Those with special needs interested in performing or showcasing their artwork, vendors interested in having a booth at the event, or those interested in volunteering at the event can apply below.

Festival Booth Applications
The 2025 Independence Day Committee invites Claremont non-profit organizations to be a part of the 4th of July Celebration by participating in the festival with a booth. Booths are available to Claremont non-profit organizations and are an excellent way to raise awareness and/or funds for your organization. The festival is open from 10am to 1pm at Memorial Park. Booth fees range from $25-$100, depending on whether it is an information, game, or selling booth. The booth application deadline is May 15, 2025.

Beginning Line Dance - Starts May 7
By popular demand, Beginning Line Dance is now being offered at the Joslyn Center! The class will take place Wednesdays, May 7 through June 11, from 10:45am to 11:45am. The class will cover all the basic steps in line dance, and only beginner level dances will be taught. The class will develop techniques to improve coordination and agility while perfecting easy dances. For individuals who have taken line dance classes previously, but prefer a slower pace, consider signing up for the Line Dance class. Line Dance class is held from 9:15am to 10:45am. Bowers Museum Excursion - May 15
Join us for a trip to the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana for a self-guided tour. Enjoy exhibits such as Ceramics of Western Mexico, Art of the Pacific Islands, and many more. Afterward, hop back on the bus for a trip to Old Town Orange, where you can enjoy shopping or a meal on your own before heading back to Claremont. The trip departs from the Alexander Hughes Community Center on May 15 at 9:30am and returns at approximately 4pm. Activity level: Moderate. Fee: $12. Pre-registration is required.
Claremont Resident Priority Registration is currently open, and Open Registration begins on April 25. Refund requests must be received by Thursday, May 1, 2025. Day at the LA County Fair - May 22
Enjoy a fun-filled day on your own at the L.A. County Fair! Free transportation is provided by the Office of Supervisor Kathryn Barger. The trip departs from the Alexander Hughes Community Center on May 22 at 12:30pm and returns at approximately 5:30pm. Activity Level: Moderate. Fee: $13. Pre-registration is required. Memorial Day Services - May 26
The City of Claremont and partners, the American Legion Keith Powell Post 78 and Friends of the Oak Park Cemetery, proudly announce the 2025 Memorial Day Services. Services will be held in Oak Park Cemetery on Monday, May 26 at 11am. This occasion commemorates U.S. Service Members and will include military ceremonial traditions with remarks from local community organizations.
