Cerritos Library is a popular learning destination for the entire community. To best serve patrons’ needs, advance registration is required for some Cerritos Library programs. Please see the information below to learn how and when to register for the programs which require registration. For more information, please call Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1388.

How to Register
In order to register, patrons must be in the City’s class registration database and have obtained a family account access PIN number and individual family member personal numbers.

On-line registration
To check the availability of classes or to register for classes, please visit the Cerritos home page at cerritos.us and look for the on-line registration link. The program, eConnect, is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Before registering for classes on-line, print the eConnect User’s Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Only Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as payment. For additional information and/or to obtain the PIN numbers, please call the Library Reservation Desk at (562) 916-1388. Computers at the Cerritos Library may be used to access eConnect.

MICROSOFT WORD TIPS & TRICKS
In this three-hour class, instructor Jason Galeener will teach participants how to create professional looking documents using Microsoft Word 2007. Participants will learn how to change the default font, edit paragraph spacing, create page borders to add professional touches, insert digital photographs and images and more. This hands-on workshop is limited to 27 participants familiar with a computer keyboard and basic word processing functions.

BALLOON WORKSHOP
Come join Balloon Storyteller Annie Banannie as she shares how to make crazy cranial creations. You're guaranteed to walk away sporting cool new balloon hats created from your own imagination! Children in grades 3 and under should bring a parent with them for assistance. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. The fee is $5 per child. No refunds will be given.

CREATIVE WRITING FOR KIDS
In this creative writing workshop, children will learn about various aspects of writing, including character, plot and setting. This event is limited to 27 participants.

BOOKMAKING CLASS FOR ADULTS
In conjunction with the special display throughout the Library of artists' books, book art instructor Rachelle W. Chuang will present a free workshop on how to create a coptic stitch book and a case bound book. Space is limited to 20 participants.

PSAT PRACTICE TEST
In collaboration with Kaplan Test Prep and Tutoring, a free full-length PSAT practice test will be held for students in grades 9-12. Test takers are encouraged to eat a hearty lunch and arrive by 1:45 p.m. to sign in. Please bring a calculator and two No. 2 pencils.

SCORE GIVEBACK/ PSAT TEST STRATEGIES
All test takers will receive a detailed score report showing their strengths and weaknesses on Thursday, July 18 at 7 p.m. in the Skyline Room. SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Registration for the popular 39th Summer Reading Program will be held Monday, June 24 through Sunday, July 7 in the Art Studio. The sports-related theme for all readers is "Reading is for Champions." This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Cerritos Library, which will provide book prizes and other incentives to encourage everyone to read during the summer. A JAZZ CONCERT BY CHARGED PARTICLES
Come enjoy an evening of jazz presented by the Bay Area group Charged Particles on Thursday, June 13. TEEN STUDIO ART COMPETITION ENTRIES SOUGHT
The Cerritos Library invites teens to participate in a juried competition held in celebration of the development of the new Cerritos Library Teen Studio. Art contest award winners will be recognized at the Teen Studio dedication event and their work will be digitally displayed on e-posters in the Teen Studio. Winners will also receive gift certificates to Michaels.

The theme of the Teen Studio Art Competition is "Let's Celebrate!" Artwork can be created from any medium, including digital, photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, fabric art, chalk, ink, pastels, wax, graphite and printmaking. The artwork must have a vertical orientation with dimensions of 13.75" tall by 7.7" wide. The artwork must be scanned and saved on a CD as a .tif or .jpg file at 300 dpi. Digital submissions only will be considered.

The deadline to submit artwork for review is Friday, June 14. The artwork CD and entry form must be dropped off at the Cerritos Library circulation desk. Be sure to label the CD with your name. The Friends of the Cerritos Library Board Members will jury the competition. For more information, call (562) 916-1389.


Library Displays

THREE DIMENSIONAL PAPER ART DISPLAY
Several exquisite 3-D paper art pieces by students of Amy Chen will be displayed in the Library's lobby area through the end of July. In addition to landscapes and floral pictures, the display will include many patriotic pieces to tie in with the Fourth of July.

PAINTINGS BY TIFFANY HU
A collection of acrylic paintings by seventh grader Tiffany Hu of Whitney High School will be on display through the end of July in the Local History Museum. MY WONDERFUL MOM Portraits created by students at the art workshop held at the Library in May will be displayed in the Children's and Young Adult display cases in June and July. Local children and teens produced these one-of-a-kind art pieces under the guidance of local artist Nirali Thakkar.
