Cerritos Library is a popular learning destination for the entire community. To best serve patrons’ needs, advance registration is required for some Cerritos Library programs. Please see the information below to learn how and when to register for the programs which require registration. For more information, please call Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1388.

How to Register
In order to register, patrons must be in the City’s class registration database and have obtained a family account access PIN number and individual family member personal numbers.

On-line registration
To check the availability of classes or to register for classes, please visit the Cerritos home page at cerritos.us and look for the on-line registration link. The program, eConnect, is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Before registering for classes on-line, print the eConnect User’s Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Only Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as payment. For additional information and/or to obtain the PIN numbers, please call the Library Reservation Desk at (562) 916-1388. Computers at the Cerritos Library may be used to access eConnect.

DRAWING FOR KIDS
Participants will learn basic art or drawing techniques in this hour-long hands-on class, which is limited to 24 participants.

PICASA PHOTO WORKSHOP
Learn how to use the free Picasa software to transfer digital photographs from your camera to the computer. During this free hands-on workshop, instructor Jason Galeener will show participants how to improve pictures, organize them into folders, create slideshows, print and upload photographs to the Internet. Space is limited to 27 participants.

BEGINNING ORIGAMI FOR KIDS
Volunteen Alexa Marie Flores will teach basic origami folding for children. Kids will learn how to fold a rabbit in this one-hour class. Space is limited to 24 participants. For more information, call (562) 916-1343.

CREATIVE WRITING FOR KIDS
At this creative writing workshop, children will learn about various aspects of writing, including character, plot and setting. This event is limited to 27 registrants.

RAINBOW ANALYSIS – A STUDY OF LIGHT
During this workshop on the study of light, participants will learn how astronomers use light to recognize the presence of specific elements in distant astronomical objects. Participants will also build a simple spectroscope with which they can examine the light from both natural and artificial light sources. Resources for this STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) learning program are provided by NASAScience4Girls and Their Families, a pilot collaboration among NASA-funded science education and public outreach programs with assistance from the American Library Association. Space is limited to 20 participants.

BALLOON WORKSHOP
Balloon hats make every party fabulous! Join balloon storyteller Annie Banannie as she shares how to make crazy cranial creations. You're guaranteed to walk away sporting cool new head decor designed from your own imagination. Those in grades 3 and under should bring a parent with them to assist with the lessons. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. The fee is $5 per child. No refunds will be given.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS
Children learn the finer points of art in this series of workshops presented by Young Rembrandts. Students will use markers to create a picture in the style of the prominent American realist painter and printmaker Edward Hopper on May 7. Seating is limited to 20. The fee is $5. No refunds will be given.

SPRING BREAK MOVIES
Enjoy the following Spring Break movies presented at 2 p.m. in the Skyline Room.

Mon., Apr. 1: "Madagascar 3" (2012) Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe are still fighting to get home to the Big Apple. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent "Madagascar" style. (Rated PG, 93 minutes)

Tues., Apr. 2: "Paranorman" (2012) When a small town comes under siege by zombies, it calls on Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he'll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. (Rated PG, 92 minutes)

Wed., Apr. 3: "Here Comes the Boom" (2012) Former collegiate wrestler Scott Voss is now a 42-year-old biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten the school's music program and its teacher, Scott dusts off his long-unused wrestling skills and earns money for the program by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. (Rated PG, 105 minutes)

Thurs., Apr. 4: "Rise of the Guardians" (2012) When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes of children all over the world. (Rated PG, 97 minutes)

Fri., Apr. 5: "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" (2012) This is an inspiring story about a happily married couple who can't wait to start a family. When young Timothy shows up on their doorstep, the couple and the town of Stanleyville learn that sometimes the unexpected brings some of life's greatest gifts. (Rated PG, 105 minutes)


ARTS & CRAFTS FOR KIDS

FAMILY NIGHT
Join Safari Sam on a wild animal puppet safari! Kids will meet and learn about 12 amazing animals, including the Bengal tiger, chimpanzee, tortoise, koala and many more. "ATHLETES IN SKIRTS"/A PLAY
On Monday, April 15, the American Association of University Women/Palos Verdes Peninsula Readers Theater will present the original play "Athletes in Skirts," written and directed by Jacky Mason. This dramatic and entertaining play features Annie Oakley, Gertrude Ederle, Babe Didrikson and Billie Jean King, who were pioneers in breaking down the barriers to women in sports. FRIENDS BOOK SALE
The Friends of the Cerritos Library will hold its spring book sale in the Skyline Room of the Cerritos Library on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. "FILL A BAG FOR $2" will be held on Sunday, April 21 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The Members Only Presale will be held on Friday, April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. Membership to the Friends of the Cerritos Library will be available at the door on Friday evening. The cost of membership is $10 for individuals, $15 for families, $25 for organizations and corporations and $100 for a life membership. ASTRONOMY NIGHT

CLASSICAL VIOLIN/PIANO RECITAL
Violinist Dr. Kangwon Kim and pianist Dr. Li-shan Hung will perform some of Franz Schubert's works for violin and piano on Thursday, May 2. Dr. Kim was an assistant professor of violin and chamber music at Biola University in La Mirada. She will be accompanied on the piano by Dr. Hung, who serves as an associate professor and is the Keyboard Area Coordinator at Biola University. For more information, call (562) 916-1342.

Library Displays

BOOKS SIGNED BY VISITING AUTHORS
Cerritos Library has had the privilege of hosting several best-selling authors. A display of books signed by visiting authors such as Ray Bradbury, Meg Cabot, Stephen Cannell, Marcia Clark, Earlene Fowler, Cornelia Funke, Sue Grafton, Denise Hamilton, Faye Kellerman, Dean Koontz, John Lescroart, Lisa See, Gary Soto and many others will be on display in the Local History Museum and the Young Adult area of the Library until the end of May.

SAN DIEGO BOOK ARTS EXHIBITION
Artists' books created by members of the San Diego Book Arts will be exhibited in the Library's lobby area through the end of May. This display will highlight each member's unique approach to the book as art.
