Cerritos Library is a popular learning destination for the entire community. To best serve patrons’ needs, advance registration is required for some Cerritos Library programs. Please see the information below to learn how and when to register for the programs which require registration. For more information, please call Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1388.
How to Register
In order to register, patrons must be in the City’s class registration database and have obtained a family account access PIN number and individual family member personal numbers.
On-line registration
To check the availability of classes or to register for classes, please visit the Cerritos home page at cerritos.us and look for the on-line registration link. The program, eConnect, is best viewed with Internet Explorer. Before registering for classes on-line, print the eConnect User’s Guide for step-by-step instructions.
Only Visa and MasterCard will be accepted as payment. For additional information and/or to obtain the PIN numbers, please call the Library Reservation Desk at (562) 916-1388. Computers at the Cerritos Library may be used to access eConnect.

BEGINNING ORIGAMI FOR KIDS
Volunteen Alexa Marie Flores will be teaching basic origami folding for children. Children will learn how to fold a frog in this one-hour class.

BOOKMAKING: 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS IN A BOX
In conjunction with the special display throughout the Library of artists' books, book art instructor Rachelle W. Chuang will present a free workshop where participants will sew 12 easy pamphlet-stitch books and construct a slipcase to house them in. This beginning level book arts class is limited to 20 participants.

MAGIC WORKSHOP FOR KIDS
This workshop by Wayne Kawamoto will teach children simple magic tricks that employ common household items. The workshop is limited to 50 participants. The fee is $5 per child. No refunds will be given.

FINGER KNITTING
Learn how to "finger knit" or knit without needles. Participants will learn how to knit simple chains, using one or two different colored strands of yarn, which they can then connect to form scarves and other items. PARTNERS IN CHIME
Under the directorship of local music educator, organist and music therapist Lee Lassetter, Partners in Chime invites you to its holiday performance featuring many well-loved holiday songs on Monday, December 3. This chime choir will perform traditional carols such as "O Come All Ye Faithful" as well as lighter favorites, including "Frosty the Snowman." The mellow, calm tone of the chimes, which are similar to handbells, will bring a song to your heart and a rest from the bustle of the holiday season. GIFT-WRAPPING WORKSHOP
On Tuesday, December 4, award-winning gift-wrapping expert Rosie Sato will provide tips and techniques on easy, beautiful and versatile gift wrapping and bow-making using just one color paper, color ribbon and embellishments. This gift wrap technique can be easily applied to birthdays, weddings and other special occasions. CYPRESS SENIOR CHORUS
The Cypress Senior Chorus will sing songs of the season, including such favorites as "It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas," "Silver Bells" and "White Christmas," as well as several recently composed pieces in celebration of the holiday. Your spirits will be lifted by the beautiful choral sounds of this class from the North Orange County Community College District's School of Continuing Education/Life Skills Advancement Program. The choir is made up of older adults retired from various professions, who love to sing and share their joy of music in the community. The director is Lee Lassetter, a local music educator, organist and music therapist.

MYSTERY ON THE MENU
The Friends of the Cerritos Library will host the eighth Mystery on the Menu luncheon with 15 award-winning authors on Saturday, January 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The authors participating in panel discussions and book signing are Rhys Bowen, Robin Burcell, Jan Burke, Marcia Clark, Janet Dawson, Tim Hallinan, Naomi Hirahara, Melodie Johnson Howe, Leslie Klinger, Dick Lochte, Catriona McPherson, Christopher Rice, Sheldon Siegel, April Smith and Kelli Stanley. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. ART & WRITING CONTESTS
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the City of Cerritos is offering art and writing contests for students. The theme is "The Quest for Peace and Justice." Only one entry is allowed per student per category. All entries must be turned in to the Children's Help Desk at the Library by Friday, January 4 at 8:30 p.m. After judging, selected entries will be on display during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day ceremony on Monday, January 21 and at the Library until the end of February. Contest application forms are available at the Cerritos Library and on the City's website at cerritos.us. For more information, call Padmini Prabhakar at (562) 916-1389. The Art Contest is open to students in grades K-12. Participants may use any drawing or painting materials. All artwork must be no larger than 12" x 18" and should not be mounted. The writing contest is open to students in grades 7-12. Entries, either a poem or an essay, must be original, no more than 300 words, and preferably typed on letter-size paper.
Library Displays
ANTIQUE HAND FANS
A variety of beautiful antique fans from the collection of Tracy Winkler will be on display in the Local History Museum until the end of December. Several of these unusual fans are hand-painted, embroidered and embellished with feathers and sequins.
