Due to COVID-19 precautions, the Christmas Tree Lighting event was not held this year. The Cerritos Civic Center features the City’s beautiful Christmas tree and cheerful holiday lights, and the community is invited to bring their cameras and take photos in front of the tree. Please wear masks and maintain social distancing while in the Civic Center and be mindful of vehicle traffic while taking photos. The tree, which has been outfitted with extra lights this year, is lit at approximately 4:30 p.m. each day.

The City’s annual Santa's Holiday Island event, originally scheduled for Saturday, December 12, has been canceled.

A Cerritos Library virtual Thanksgiving program with a turkey craft activity and three seasonal stories is posted on the Library’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/watch?v=nqA4oeio34Y.

The City continues to carefully monitor State and County information about when and how City facilities will be allowed to reopen, and will provide updates as they become available. For a complete list of the status of City facilities, programs and events, please visit the City’s website at cerritos.us.

Los Angeles County has announced that as new COVID-19 cases remain at alarming levels and the number of people hospitalized continues to increase, the Health Officer Order will be modified to restrict dining at restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars, effective Wednesday, November 25 at 10 p.m. To reduce the possibility for crowding and the potential for exposures in settings where people are not wearing their face coverings, restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars will only be able to offer take-out, drive through and delivery services.

On November 23, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released a press release that states: “If the five-day average of cases is 4,500 or more or hospitalizations are more than 2,000 per day, a Targeted Safer at Home Order with additional safety modifications will be issued. Given that our five-day average case rate is now over 4,500, Public Health will be working with the Board of Supervisors to determine additional safety modifications.” Health Officer Orders are posted on the website located at publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/guidances.htm.

People who think they need testing for COVID-19 should contact their health care provider. People who do not have a health care provider can call 211 for help. Information about how to schedule a free COVID-19 test appointment is available on the website covid19.lacounty.gov/testing.

Cerritos residents are reminded that the best defenses against COVID-19 are to wear a face covering, wash their hands frequently, practice social distancing and avoid touching their face.

Los Angeles County is currently reporting a total of 783 cases of COVID-19 and 17 deaths due to COVID-19 in Cerritos. There are 27 reported cases of COVID-19 in the unincorporated area of Cerritos.
