The City of Cerritos continues to carefully monitor information about when and how City facilities will be allowed to reopen, and will provide updates as they become available. For a complete list of the status of City facilities, programs and events, please visit the City’s website at cerritos.us. Los Angeles County is currently reporting a total of 432 cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths due to COVID-19 in Cerritos. There are 12 reported cases of COVID-19 in the unincorporated area of Cerritos. The City’s website has a link titled “Novel Coronavirus in Los Angeles County” that opens a page with information about the number of cases in cities throughout the County. County of L.A. Department of Public Health COVID-19 Presentation on August 27 County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health official Silvia Prieto, MD, MPH, will present information about COVID-19 and answer questions about the disease during the Thursday, August 27 City Council meeting. Dr. Prieto is the County’s Public Health Regional Health Officer for the East and South Bay regions. To facilitate responses from Dr. Prieto, community members are encouraged to submit their questions about COVID-19 through an email to city_clerk@cerritos.us by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 21. In the subject line of the email, please include the following: August 27 City Council Meeting Agenda Item 9A Question. To allow everyone an opportunity to request information, it is recommended that each person only submit one question. The public may also ask a question during the meeting by connecting to the City Council teleconference meeting online or by telephone. Information about how to connect will be included in the meeting agenda that will be posted on the City’s website on Friday, August 21. Dr. Prieto is participating in the meeting in response to a request from the Cerritos City Council. COVID-19 Testing As the need for COVID-19 testing continues to increase, the County of Los Angeles is expanding testing capacity at current sites and opening new sites in high-need areas. As a result of this expansion, County-supported testing sites will have the capacity to test up to 55,000 residents a week. Four new County-supported testing sites will begin offering appointments this month:

L.A. County residents seeking testing should first contact their medical provider. Testing at all County and City-operated sites is prioritized for people with COVID-19 symptoms; those working or living in high-risk places such as skilled nursing facilities, group homes and residential care facilities; persons experiencing homelessness; and people who have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19. Testing availability is subject to change and is by appointment only. Visit covid19.lacounty.gov/testing/ or coronavirus.lacity.org/testing to view a full list of testing sites and to make an appointment. 2020 U.S. Census Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 U.S. Census timeline has been modified since the Census count began in late March. A new Census deadline of Wednesday, September 30 was announced this week. The City encourages residents to participate. Field canvassing to non-responsive households will begin on Tuesday, August 11.
