Members of the public can now visit City Hall for services without first making an appointment. The City encourages the public to continue to make appointments whenever possible to facilitate their access to services. A directory of phone numbers to schedule an appointment is available on the City's website. The public is encouraged to access services online or by telephone when possible.

The City's overnight parking restrictions moratorium has been extended through Saturday, August 1. Citations will not be issued for overnight parking violations or for vehicles parked on the street on street sweeping days.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of when and how the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) will be allowed to re-open, the theater will not present a 2020-2021 Season. This decision was made in an effort to provide the safest and healthiest environment possible for CCPA patrons, performers, volunteers and employees. During the CCPA’s closure, the theater will undertake critical maintenance projects, including the installation of a new fire suppression system. The CCPA is currently closed pursuant to a Safer at Work and in the Community for Control of COVID-19 Health Officer Order issued by the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health Officer that prohibits mass gatherings. County officials have indicated that the re-opening of venues will be allowed in phases and with requirements for social distancing and disinfection protocols.

As of Thursday, July 9, the County reported a total of 278 cases of COVID-19 and six deaths due to COVID-19 in Cerritos. The City’s website has a link titled “Novel Coronavirus in Los Angeles County” that opens a page with information about the number of cases in cities throughout the County.

Effective July 1 and until further notice, the L.A. County Department of Public Health has required the closure of restaurants for indoor dining. Outdoor dining, delivery and take-out are permitted.

Restaurant owners in Cerritos who would like to add an outdoor dining area can apply for a Temporary Use Permit from the City. During the COVID-19 local emergency, there will be no fee charged for the permit. City staff will evaluate the application to ensure that outdoor dining can be provided in a safe environment. For information, restaurant owners can call the Community Development Department at (562) 916-1201. Temporary Use Permits applications are available on the City’s website at http://www.cerritos.us/BUSINESSES/planning_and_building_permits.php#planning.

The County also required the closure of indoor areas of museums, zoos and aquariums, and card rooms. All bars, brew pubs, wineries and tasting rooms in LA County are also closed. In addition, staff and patrons of gyms must wear cloth face coverings and gloves.

COVID-19 Testing

L.A. County Department of Health Services (DHS) has indicated that it is likely COVID-19 testing access will not be sufficient to accommodate all those who want to be tested in the coming weeks. The County is preparing to add additional testing sites in areas identified as hot spots where data illustrates high test positivity, low testing access and high mortality.

That effort will include partnerships with community-based organizations to aggressively target high-risk communities through street outreach teams delivering COVID-19 prevention messages door-to-door. Information about how to schedule a free COVID-19 test appointment is available at covid19.lacounty.gov/testing.

L.A. County advises residents to carefully consider (in consultation with your health care provider) whether you actually need a COVID-19 test. If you're not sure, please review the County's Criteria for Testing:

  • Symptoms: if you have symptoms, you CAN sign up for a test, but it doesn’t mean you need to. You need to talk to your provider first.
  • High-risk congregant settings: testing is key in settings where transmission can spread rapidly.
  • Known exposure: know your exposure, so that contacts can be traced if you are positive for COVID-19. This type of testing is key for tracing infection and for public health purposes.

Paycheck Protection Program

The federal government has extended the deadline for businesses to apply for aid under the Paycheck Protection Program. Businesses now have until Saturday, August 8 to apply for a loan through the Paycheck Protection program. Information about how to apply is on the U.S. Small Business Administration website at sba.gov.
