From September 15 – October 15, we celebrate the vibrant traditions, histories, and lasting contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities across the U.S., with roots in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The celebration begins mid-month to coincide with the independence days of several Latin American countries — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on September 15, Mexico on the 16th, and Chile on the 18th.
Rail Safety Month Is Underway — And This Is See Tracks, Think Train® Week
Capitol Corridor kicked off California Rail Safety Month earlier this month with Partners United for Rail Safety—an open house at Davis Station followed by a special safety train ride to Martinez.
Local and state leaders, public agencies, and rail partners—including California Operation Lifesaver, Union Pacific, Amtrak, California Northern Railroad, the City of Davis, and County of Yolo— all united in the mission to save lives near railroad tracks. The event spotlighted the Three Es of Rail Safety—Engineering, Education, and Enforcement—with live safety demonstrations, expert insights, and a visit to a Martinez crossing upgraded with federal funds.
In 2025 alone, California has reported 309 rail-related casualties, including 10 along the Capitol Corridor route, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. Since 2022, 55 lives have been lost on our tracks. As we observe See Tracks, Think Train® Week (September 15-21, 2025), let’s keep the momentum going! Rail safety is everyone’s responsibility.
